Default Indigo Kumquat

Seen Johnny's has this for sale but is sold out. Really high seed prices as well. Looks like a Brad gates variety but I dont think it is. Has anyone grown it and if so was the taste good?

I haven't tried it yet. Territorial has it a little cheaper:

One review here: https://www.totallytomato.com/P/0037...+Hybrid+Tomato

Here's the breeder's page. Their other varieties look cool, too:

Thanks Cole. The review sounds pretty good but I wonder what makes it so much better than any of the other antho lines that various breeders have created. Pretty good price at TT, may have to try it. I like that it is a little bigger than cherry size.

I thought this was about a kumquat not a tomato.

I bought a plant at a local nursery this spring and grew it. Nice flavor, and they keep a long time. After I noticed some predation, I started picking them as soon as I noticed some yellow/orange color. Mine were more yellow or light orange, not that stunning dark orange in the photos, but summers are cool here and the garden spot didn't get more than 5-6 hours of sun. Also, the plant was wispy.

I saved F2 seed (because I was in seed-saving mode) and sent a few packs to the MMMM swap.

What other tomato would you compare the flavor too? I bet they breed true although supposedly a hybrid.

I would highly doubt they breed true. Particularly since Peter Mes is the breeder, and there is no way he would risk his reputation promoting something that could be so easily shown to be false.

I'd call it a pleasant sweet-tart flavor. I don't get intensely sweet in those conditions (limited sun). Definitely not bland.

I also doubt they'd breed true. Blue tomatoes are relatively new, and it's a grape that's orange/yellow with antho shoulders, combined with pretty good flavor.

Ah well I think I will order some then. A blue with good taste has been hard to find for me.

LOL Dude I was gonna say that when I replied but thought "Jeremy stop hating on the blues man" so I toned it down a bit, but if I pay that much for them and they are nasty I'm gonna be

Blue-on-yellow varieties have been my favorite of the anthos. Bosque Blue Bumblebee and Yamali Yellow are both tasty enough for a tomato snob to still enjoy.

Those shown in the above link don't look like OSU variety, which are pronounced oval/grape shape and bigger.
The one shown in Cole's link (territorial seeds) do like like OSU picture.

Just looked at the Johnny's site. Indigo Kumquat is not sold out. It is a new variety that just hasn't arrived yet.

I do know that in trials here in CA it did well compared to Antho varieties two years ago.
