1. It may be a stray seed. If so, saved seed from this plant are highly likely to produce RL seedlings. Look to see if fruit type, color, and flavor match pl Rebel Yel.

2. It may be a bee made cross. It happens all the time. I enjoy growing out bee made crosses when I have time and space in the garden. If it is a bee made cross, most likely the fruit will have different color. Rebel Yell is supposed to be a vigorous pl pink. If the fruit are typical pink beefsteaks, it could still be a cross with a regular leaf pink or it could be a cross with a regular leaf pale yellow variety. Either way, save the seed and if it is a cross, the seed will produce 1/4 potato leaf seedlings.

3. Could it still be a mutation? Yes, it is possible. The gene for regular leaf is present in potato leaf plants but is disabled. It would be a long shot. This is far and away the least likely reason for RL plants showing up in PL varieties. It is fairly easy to prove. Save seed and see if they produce 100% RL seedlings. If fruit type and color and flavor are identical with pl Rebel Yell and if the seed produce 100% RL plants, it could be because of a mutation.

Still waiting for those pictures of the leaves, hope to see good clear ones soon. May be informative.

so, until they actually set fruit and ripen it is still a mystery. none of mine were regular leaf. and I really think that foliage looks like cherry tomato foliage, jmo.

Well I know that it is not a cherry for it flowered 3-4 days ago. I started the seed on Aug 26 at night, so that is very fast, and both Rebels are flowering.
