Default Who saves cracked tomatoes?

I just had a heavy rain and now I'm left with many cracked tomatoes. Some are ripe and others are close, I went ahead and picked them. They are in my garage. My plan is to ripen them and make sauce or something (acourse I'll cut around the cracks.) I don't know if this is good or bad, gnats were present even before these tomatoes came in.

I usually relegate them to saving seeds. If they aren't developing any molds in the cracks, and if gotten to soon enough before gnats/fruitflies, I freeze what's left after seedsaving and then make sauce in the fall or winter by running them thru a Spremy (electric strainer that separates any skin & missed seeds from the pulp & juice.)

If they aren't badly cracked, you can always cut off the worst parts and use them immediately, but don't keep them long--gnats/fruitflies will find them & have their own feast. (Flies & yellow jackets too if kept outdoors.)

If rain is forecast, try to pick anything ripe or near ripe before the rain arrives...

I do, I do. If I have a lot, it's a great excuse to make salsa.

The only time you see ripe fruits on my plants is if A) I have the flu, B) I am out of town, C) I missed one.

I've saved seed from them - cut out the scar or crack and
eat em - don't matter ...

I feed them to my peacocks. Tomatoes make their tails very colorful!
