A crossed seed from last year
Wanting to know of any simmillar fruit before i go ahead and name or see if it exists ??.
These fruits look like little Apples from how i veiwe or one could say Strawberries . havent tasted as yet as waiting to fully ripen to save seed from due to the amount of fruit on each Truss. Also clipped the tip of the stem tops in the hope of more fruit Trusses ..

Intriguing shape Volvo, makes me think of some of the small mini capsicums that one can get. Take plenty of notes as if this is an F1, you still have a number of years growing before it is stable. If you have more F1 seed you may wish to grow it along side F2, F3 etc for comparisons sakes that you are sure you are keeping features you like. Roughly what size (mm) would they be.

The shape could change in the F1 to F2 stage, so rather than give it a full name, give it a working name that you can change as it stabilizes more.

okay here is how these came about in detail and any help re naming or whatever would greatly be appreciated .
last year we were buying heaps of Tomatos as the growing was a tad slow or not at all , Missus bought about halfe a doz packs of cherry Tomatos from Coles for us and for the Grandchildren as they love theri Cherry Tomatos. She showed me a Cherry Tomato that looked ribbed , small and long and asked me to try the seeds from it. In truth i didnt think much of it but to my word i went out to the vegy Patch where i had a nice soft area and squeezed the seed from the Tomato and took note where i stuck them . So this year a bunch of seedling came up and thought " What the heck " and planted in among my other Cherry crop and that is the end result , not much like its original so thought it may have crossed with some of the other plants out there and hence what developed ??..

How many plants did you transplant Volvo? It may be worth tasting one off each plant before you save the seed, no point if it is a spitter or has that tough a skin you can't chew it.
Certainly seems to be a cross from what ever source it came from. As you don't have any seeds to refer back to if you really like it notes are important. Next year with the F2 seed will see the greatest variation in fruit shape, taste, truss formation etc. It will then be a matter of selecting out the version you prefer. The more you can grow, the greater the variation you should see. Have fun! |
