I wonder if that NY blizzard is the same system forecast to hit the maritimes and newfoundland on Thursday. Our weatherman showed us watches and warnings all up and down the eastern seaboard, and he said the storm that makes landfall in Nova Scotia will be equivalent to a category 3 hurricane in pressure/wind speed. A monster storm like we had in March past. Looks like we are spared the worst of it here on the Avalon, at least only a twelve hour period overnight with about 10 cm or mm of precip either snow or freezing rain and crazy high winds before it goes above freezing, with a high of 6 or 7 C on Friday. Yep quite a thaw but just long enough to convert the snow into water then back to ICE instead. Ah well. Rink rats rejoice.

Wow, I don't know about that system but my step daughter said there was a 20 car pileup that kept her stuck in the blizzard for 4 hours. Yike! You all stay safe out there.

I see people that still dress like it's summer and run from the car into a store.
Nuts.

That's one of the things most stupid about New Years Eve here. It's a great chance to dress up in some flimsy 'gown' and go stand outdoors at midnight. NYE is always cold here and downright foul weather maybe 9 times out of ten. Nuts, absolutely nuts. I did this about half dozen times when I was a youngster, before realizing it was utter BS.

Ahhh Texas weather. Yesterday, I was stuck inside for the third straight day. Today the hot water pipe thawed and you can go outside without a coat or jacket on.

I'm gonna miss my big walk in cooler.
Had all the leftovers out in the garage.

That was the first thing I did, and I just went out there and checked again. I found where it froze. A section of pipe insulation is missing. I'm thinking the dog got it now. I'm going to put new insulation on and duct tape it.

Then ask Worth to send me some of his ghost pepper sauce to spray it down with

There's a blizzard warning for Eastern North Carolina.

Blizzard Warning in North Carolina
Active for next 18 hours · National Weather Service
This alert has been updated.
Posted 3 hours ago
...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Travel will be very
dangerous to impossible, including during the morning commute
on Thursday. Tree branches could fall as well. Total snow
accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected, with locally
higher amounts up to 10 inches. A light glaze of ice is
possible as well this evening in sleet and freezing rain.

* WHERE...Pasquotank County.

* WHEN...Until 1 PM EST Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will
cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant
drifting of the snow is likely.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded, stay with your vehicle. The latest road conditions for
the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

several more inches of snow over night, and during the day. the drive had to be blown twice. plowed snow around the house, and shoveled a path to the wood pile in preparation to moving more wood into the enclosed porch. we are burning wood constantly to keep the house warm. we are still in the deep freeze here. it was 4 degrees for most of the day. hot tea and coffee really hit the spot at various times.
right now, a 20 degree day would be nice.
what is unique about our area is the sheer persistence of snowfall due to lake effect.
from say mid november to mid march, we routinely get 180 to 250 inches of snow.
thats a foot or more of snow a week on average.
it wears on you after awhile.

They are calling for another cold snap here in Southern Ontario.
Thankfully, we don't get as much snow as you and very little lake effect snow because we are located at the western corner of lake Ontario.

Not as cold as last week but -13 F for January 5 would be a new record low for this area. (Record for Jan 5 stands at 59 F in 1997 and -2.9F in 1968).

Annnd, it's dropping in temps once again. It sure was nice opening the door and being able to walk outside this afternoon.
