Depends how many is in your family and how many eggs you guys eat a day. Probably 5 hens and a rooster. hint hint Growing your own is the only way to be absolutely sure. hint hint Just like growing your own tomatoes.

I'm not zoned for it. But there's some new talk about zoning for two chickens but no rooster for my area.
