Carolyn,
I wish I could help you with the seeds! Please don't worry about things. Personally, I won't plant things in my garden until mid-June anyway! Stay warm, and do things as you can when you can. Take care of yourself! We had the extremely cold weather, out here and now it's yours. (Sorry about that.) Robin |

Best plan is to stay tucked in and enjoy the tennis. Take winter one day at a time, it's a long way till spring. In my household, we decided that the theme for 2013 is 'better late than never'. AKA when it's ready, then it's done. No point in stressin.
It's been really cold here too... I've taken to reading the two week forecasts because even if they're wrong, they give me hope! The oracles say there's a warm spot coming your way around the end of the month... and then it comes to us! Beloved day of rain, I'll take it! |

Rick, my wonderful Heating person has fixed my Monitor, so I can weather the next few frigid days and nights with less worry.
I called him Wed Am, he's in Arlington, VT, about 40 min away, and explained, and tried to mimic the sound. There are 4 burner levels and 3 fan speeds on my Monitor, computer controlled and I love it and it was put in when I moved here in 1999.At the lowest burner levels in the day it wasn't doing it. He said he would be home by 5 and to call him when it got colder to tell him what was happening. I called at 8 PM, and no sounds, he asked me if I'd ever heard anything like it before, I said no. Yesterday AM the sounds again, I had taken my cordless phone out there so he could hear but the volume was bad and he couldn't hear, He said he would drive over to take a look. He came ASAP, walked over to it, listened and said it was the fuel filter associated with the fuel pump inside the Monitor. He said that kerosene or fuel oil can sit on such filters and over time,in the summers, kind of decay and get gluey and can clog the filter, he called it somthing like restricted flow. Had it fixed, waited for the temp to come back up, and then drove back to VT to thaw out more homes and businesses. One home he'd done the day before had both water and fuel lines split and brought in some copper tubing to show me the split in that which he said he seldom sees. Oh, and he said that he had seen the problem my Monitor had and it took 13 years for it to get to the point where it was and said he was so glad I'd called him b'c the next thing that would happen is that it would shut down completely. Back to the seed front. Pre- furnace I had sent out some SASE's and I got 3 PM's today saying seeds had arrived, and asked each to please post in my seed offer thread so folks would known that I wasn't a complete slacker. I also got one e-mail from someone who worried about SASE's saying that the peson hadn't added the extra one cent if I sent them out after Jan27 when the new rates go into effect. I said I had some ones and fives and would check the postage on the SASE's so not to worry. Hopefully this weekend I can get man ymore SASE's ready to go out. All for now. Carolyn

Carolyn, I'm far more concerned about you in this frigid weather than the seeds, and I'm sure that goes without saying for your friends here on TV! It has been brutally cold and I for one, can't wait till this is over . Glad to hear things are warming up your way, take care!

I just got my 2013 SSE YEarbook today, the earliest ever in about 20 years, so all outstanding SASE's for my seed offer must be recieved by me by next Thursday, a week from today, or I will not be able to honor them.
Thanks; Carolyn

Carolyn,
If we have not received your seed offer, does that mean you have not received our SASE ?.... I sent mine a few weeks ago and figured it was a busy time....perhaps you did not receive it ? Thanks, Judi |

A huge number of envelopes appeared the same week I opened the seed offer and I'm still working on those who sent their envelopes on jan9, and expect to get to those sent on Jan10 over the weekend. Carolyn

Just updating to let everyone know that today the last of the seeds for US folks went out.
I didn't cross check names of persons to whom I sent seeds with the list of user names when you e-mailed me for my home address but there are least two I know of who signed up and never sent an SASE. Not a problem, but I'm always curious to see which varieties a person requests b'c honestly, it tells me something about that person. Whether they are risk takers for never before known varieties or whether they stick with varieties that are known to many. Just call me the Tomato Psychologist. Of the non-US ones I've sent out just one to a person who lives in a very warm area and expect to get the others done, or most of them done anyway, to be sent out Saturday, or more likely on Tuesday since Monday is a holiday. To date everyone got their first choices but I'm very low on seeds for some varieties, so we shall see. And I'm the one who made the BIG GOOF in not posting that on the request papers the date of when the seed was produced should be there. Those who have participated before did that. I had so much trouble with that new version of WORD that I just plain forgot it. So there I sit at my tomato seed packing table, start marking the seed packets and whoa, I can't remember which year for many. I have the 2012 ones, 11 ones, 10 ones, 9 ones and 8 ones in separate boxes and within each box filed alphabetically. So the search is on and again, it's all my fault and it won't happen again. Fact is that when I'm trying to meet my quota for the day I sometimes don't return seeds alphabetically and just plop the envelopes in the front of the box. Not good and then more searching. Carolyn

My tomato psychology must have been pretty boring this year. You asked that one not pick everything from the newest, so I picked the one tomato I was most interested in trying from the new, and then went to the older seeds and picked out varieties that didn't seem to easily available commercial sources.

Talk about tomato psychology! This year I requested 3 varieties, but still haven't sown the 5 (mostly hearts) from last year, they'll come. Sorry to read you had heating problems, but only stumbled over this thread now after reading the original one. It never gets so cold here - this winter no temperatures of zero F, but related to tomato growing our main problem is cool summers as in PNW.

The last of the seed envelopes go out today, there was a very large batch that went out yesterday as well.
So, all requests from US persons whose SASE's I received and all requests from non-US persons I received via e=mail have now been sent. And everyone got their first choices, but it was close, and now to see what I might send for trial to those seed places where I've known the owners for a long time. Linda at TGS already received hers b/c she now has someone else, also in FL, doing trials, and I sent her seeds in late Dec. Now to sit back and relax, ead some good books, watch some TV tennis, and then wait to see if there are more SSE requests coming in, and then to sit down and make a list of all the many new varieties I've received, or expect to, so I can then share that list with the now four folks who do the seed production for me. But I will say that I had two sources of Dester seeds and sent out the ones I fermented first. So proud was I to do at least ONE fermentation after so many years pre-walker of doing hundreds each season. And I'll post a few more updates on name changes when I put up the germination thread, and still waiting to hear about the viability of seeds from Sam's cross between Dr. Wyche X German Red Strawberry, and that b/c someone to whom Sam had sent the same F4 seeds had some problems, so now they are being retested.Just one person though, so fingers crossed. Carolyn

Mine are here, Dr. Male, with my thanks to you for your extraordinary investment in this seed offer. I guess I fall in the more traditional category, since there are so many varieties I want to try.

Hi Carolyn, your seeds arrived here today in Belgium in very good condition. In just a week I start sowing.
Thanks very much! Greetings, Eddy |
