Hogwash as jmsieglaff says. I first read about it the summer I put my pole bean tepee in amongst a bed of garlic & a bed of onions. I asked about it and was advised to move it or risk crop failure in all 3. Well, it was midsummer and everything was well established so I just let it be. Turned out that was my best ever harvest of pole beans and both the onions & garlic were just fine. Hogwash!
That said, planting tomatoes too close to Black Walnut trees WAS not one of my better "experiments."
