The plastic below just needs to be a barrier between the drain holes and your potting mix, so nematodes can't migrate in through the drain holes. You have way more plastic than needed for that, it just needs to be a bit bigger all the way around than the bottom of your pot.

Funny you should mention this. I picked up two plants while at the nursery yesterday, and didn't realize that one of them was a two for - until I got home. However these stems are butting up against each other with no real spacing between.

Do you think they would live if I tried to separate them? The entire plant is in a 4" container and is about 12" with pot.

Also, just curious. What happens if you plant a two for together. If the container is large enough will it grow all right?

I went by the farm store today. It was cold and windy. The Bonnie tomato plants looked awful. There were a lot of them wilting from lack of water, which I'm sure was going to be a squirt of very cold tap water from a hose.

The use of growth inhibitors in the plants that were in larger containers was very obvious. Celebrity and Big Boy looked like dwarf varieties, but now that I know what I am looking at, they also look a little poisoned, too. My dwarfs look a lot healthier. Those plants at the farm store reminded me a bit of plants that have been exposed to a little herbicide...just not quite right.
