Hey thanks. Those 3.5 deep pots with a carrying tray look like what I need. It would be hard for me to spill one of these.

Actually Worth, I think you need both types. Without the holes for inside the house and for watering. And the ones with drain holes when they are outside hardening off and waiting to be planted. (Unless you are better at remembering to go round and empty them after lots of rain and before the plants drown...)

Besides I don't transplant into anything bigger, I don't have the room and it is not necessary down here in my opinion. The plants will drink up all of the water in 2 days flat. I like to put MG in the trays so they can get plenty of fertilizer and get nice and strong. The roots will spread like crazy when you put them in the ground. The trick is to not pack the potting soil too much, this gives the roots plenty of room to grow in the little 4 inch pots. In BC I can see where this would be a problem with all of the rain you guys have. Last edited by Worth1; April 4, 2008 at 10:32 PM. |

By the time they are old enough to pot up they should be spending some time outside. I can water out there. I will go with the holy ones. If I need to water them inside I could set them in an over sized tub. Or the shower floor. That's where I water my house plants.
We get kind of a leed in to the heat. I should have them in the ground before they need to be watered every day. I found these for a buck. I figure I am a small timer. A few of these should get me all the seedlings I want and more than I need. I did find a few people that will take some of my extra plants. |

Thank you Worth, for noting my silly mistake. Now I will go and edit it so it makes more sense!
I usually have so many flats out on the driveway (close to a hundred), that I don't have time to check/dump each one after a lot of rain. And since you can't tell which ones are the "no-drainers" when they are full of pots I have found it easier to go with the holey ones! (except when I run out and grab whatever is left to use) |

And I'll go back and edit my note about it.

Good point Ruth. With those small cells I was going to do my own version of the dense starting method. I don't need a lot of plants. I was thinking about 5 per cell.
Novosel Enterprises - Seedling Tray 32 cell Deep (Sheet Pots) - Then maybe I could pot up to these 32 cells X 5 trays. That should be more than I need. I am terrible at math but I have been measuring round cans and bottles. My best guess is that these trays are still at least 10 oz. The little transplant should be fine for a month in that. Thank you Ruth. |
