Update.
Some of the container plants and the "newer" tubes are starting to climb. I've been thinking long and hard on the support system, and it'll be a combination of a couple of methods.
I manufactured "posts" that'll be placed at the end of the tubes. The components were two 5 gal water containers, a 90 lb sack of quickrete (the only purchase for 4.50), long abandoned 6 7 8 irons and a tall pitching wedge, two long curtain rods (inserted into the water container handle hole). Drilled small holes in the curtain rod at 15 cm intervals. I then used 50 lb mono to tighten things up, with one loop of braided line as backup. These serve as guides for me to weave a larger diameter twine-sissal along the fishing line. It's worked well with the larger plants on the 1st tube, so hoping it can be adapted into a Florida weave. I'll take some pics when I get a new camera. Elph officialy died yesterday, RIP you tough little camera. It survived a night of being chewed on by two pit mixes, a 3 story fall, multiple waist high falls, and thousands of pics. You shall be missed. Met52 is working well on the whiteflies. DE is controlling most others. Haven't used Neem or Daconil in a while, this eve they get a dose. |

Ive got 4 that came up, dont remember how many I sowed. They are just extremely spindly and frail looking, was curious if that's the norm. Lol. 2 are noticeably shorter as well, but they all have long wispy lateral branches coming off it. Still haven't decided if I'm going to plant them. I'm so freaking behind as it is, and with limited space I want to save room for all the proven or potential varieties. I might move forward with two of them for the hell of it and give the other two away. I'll try and get some pictures this weekend.

When I was a wee tyke, which I once was,my daddy would yell at me when we picked tomatoes at the farm if I left any stems on the fruits, since when put in baskets for the trip back to the barn where we sorted them, they would poke holes in the other fruits.
My question being, with your pictures above, the ripe fruits in the baskets,do you leave the stems on just for pretty pictures and then remove them,or do you never have more than one layer of fruits so it doesn't matter? Carolyn, just wondering if the eagle has landed yet in San Diego.
