I decided to participate in this questionnaire and come back at the end of this season to see if my preference would change since I've got a few new varieties from generous tomato-lovers. I'm hunting for the super sweet tomatoes, so my list includes tomatoes that have some sweetness with fruity or acid hints:

1. Best tasting tomato - Malachitovaya Shkatulka
2. Best cherry tomato - Super Sweet Yellow Cherry
3. Best green when ripe tomato - Malachitovaya Shkatulka
4. Best huge tomato - Tyazheloves Sibiri (heart shaped, but not going good in hot weather, more for the cool weather)
5. Best early tomato - Zinulya (end of June for me, but cracking when the rain starts)
6. Best black tomato - Still looking for one, so far - Golova Negra and Kumato
7. Best heart shaped tomato - Rosoviy Med so far
8. Best potato leafed tomato - N/A
9. Best bi colored tomato - Ananas Noire, the second place - Orange Russian 117 because in my garden it's late, looking for an earlier variety
10. Best Yellow/Orange - Chukhloma
11. Best White - White Tomesole and Yazon

Some of these I've never heard of, so I'm glad there is still so much to learn and many many unknown tomatoes to grow and taste
That Sibirskiy T... sounds like one I'd love to try one day. Best yellow and best white... are those very new or very old varieties?

Hi! I assume that White Tomesol and Yazon are not new because I purchased seeds from http://www.rareseeds.com/white-tomesol-tomato/ a few years ago (around 7 years ago), even though I didn't grow them for the last couple years, I consider them the best in the white family because they were not late in my garden and production was very good, didn't have any diseases.

Tyazheloves Sibiri (translates as Siberian Heavyweight) has been around for about 10 years as I know. I got seeds from one of the Russian internet seed providers. Since our summers got warmer and warmer I stopped growing it a few years ago, because it was dying under the summer heat. But when our summers were cooler it had very high yielding with a good tomato flavor. I don't know if I still have old seeds left because back then I started to look for the varieties that could survived our warmer temperatures.

Yellow/Orange Chukhoma/Chuhloma has been around 10 years or more and it's widespreaded now, you could see the pics on the webpage below, but it's a late variety in my garden, I like it because of its sweetness and firmness. I don't grow it every year, but from time to time it returns to my garden. If I would get more space in my garden I would grow it more often, but every year I'm trying to find more early varieties http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Yellow-...-/261682350801

Back then I didn't have a habit to save my own seeds because I wasn't a member of any tomato forums and always was purchasing new seeds from seed providers))) I learned to save seed not too long ago and was giving them away since I don't have a big garden to repeat all of them every year.

Thanks for the info! I didn't see those varieties at Tatiana's Tomatobase (she has listed thousands of others), but glad to see that Baker Seeds sells unusual (not so well known) tomatoes.

Chuchloma I did find, not much info on it in English though. So cool to see less popular names pop up - not the 'usual suspects' (Brandywines and Kellogs Breakfast - I have yet to try one of those and I am hoping to do so one day..)

Tatiana lists Sibirskiy Tyazheloves as "Tyazheloves Sibiri".

You're right. Since it was a while ago I forgot the right wording. Should be Tyazheloves Sibiri

Looks like a wonderful tomato: early, det., and a pink heart.. what's not to like?

Would you consider sharing some seeds at the end of the season?

This site gives an accurate description of Chukhloma in english http://renaissancefarms.org/healingh...-tomato-seeds/
Mine was a high indeterminate, higher than 6', but I was pruning it to 2 stems. Some years it was acting as multiflora 25+ per truss, but fruits were smaller 50+ grams. Some years it has 6-8+ fruits per truss, but larger 100-150 grams. From the very same seed package. Back then I didn't realize that multiflora is not common to this variety. If this would happen again I would definitely save seeds, but back then I was still very new to a tomato world and didn't realize lots of things))) I was using all the seeds from the package and didn't save any by myself))) What I noticed that if I use the fertilizer with a bigger proportion of phosphorus (15-30-15) Chukhloma sets more flowers per truss. So, I assume that it's reacting differently to different soil and fertilizers.

Tyazheloves Sibiri - in my humid climate was acting as a tall indet (at least from the seed package I got back then), first ripe fruits were in early August, which is OK for my climate (not the earliest, but still earlier than other varieties). It has 8-18 oz pink hearts, about 8 per truss, so I had to do an additional support (J hooks trellis) per every truss because trusses were too heavy for the plant to hold the weight. Fruits didn't have lots of seeds, were more meaty, but not dry, enough juice.

I would be happy to share seeds, but I do not grow it for the last few years since we got warmer summers and this variety was dying under our summer heat. I think it was not able to survive because of its wispy leaves and delicate structure of the plant, or maybe because the root system was not able to absorb enough nutrition from the soil, when it got warmer. If I would be able to get some fresh seeds elsewhere, I'd be happy to share them.

Of course while looking through your links and the ebay vendor listings you mentioned, I came across a Russian vendor, with a large collection of Aelita (a well known Russian gardening company) seeds.
I'm doomed to this addiction.

Yes, Aelita is a well known Russian company, but I've never tried their seeds in the past. In the past, I was buying seeds from another well known Russian company - "Sibirskiy Sad" and always had very good results. One of the ebay vendor currently has Tyazheloves Sibiri from this particular company. The description is saying that it's determinate up to 2'.

Now, I think that my previous TS was a wrong one (since mine was an indet type). I got my seed from a different company and country. Colorwise, the shape and weight were similar.

P.S. Thanks for mentioning an ebay vendor, looks like he has interesting varieties I want to try)))

Welli, it was bound to happen: I made a purchase
Some irresistible varieties: Malachite Siberian is a smaller fruited variety than Malachitovaya Shtatulka, it has green / yellow stripes and supposedly an unique taste.
I also got Klyukve ve sakhare - two years ago, I bought a tomatof of that name that turned out to be something else (it was not bad, just not what it was supposed to be). I hope to finally ge the real thing directly from Aelita.. it should be, as they're the ones who developed it.
