I agree with dice about Micheal Pollan. Flavor just wasn't good. Pretty though. This year I received seed for a variety called Mirabelle Blanche. At first I wasn't thrilled, but I had picked them too early. Once they got a pretty pastel pink, they were awesome. Smaller plant, didn't crack, and the tomatoes didn't drop.
For a great red grape, I love Val's Red Nibbler. Little cracking also. Great flavor. For the orange, I too love Jaune Flammee. But for a smaller version, I tried and loved, also, was Prize of the Trials. |

every day to catch Carolyn's seed offer. It closes fast. If you don't catch it, there are other members that have it. I may grow one, even though I prefer the sweet ones. |

But this next one will be quite different for several reasons. First, I allowed too many folks in and ended up frantically packing and labelling about 500 seed packs. Too much. Second, I was wiped out of many of the 2011 aged seeds. Third, seed production by the folks who help do that since I no longer can, is not good at all for this past season, so I'm sure much fewer absolutely new ones. And I keep saying new ones and I mean new to all or most which I've done since 2005 since after severing all four quads in my right leg in Dec of 2004 I can no longer do what I used to do with my own tomato growing. And yes, as roper said, there have to be others who have seeds as well since I distributed a lot of seed for Casino Chips. Roper, you'd like Casino Chips, it just isn't the sweetest one around, but it does have a great balanced taste that many love. And Casino Chips isn't the only great cherry around either since there are many that have been mentioned in this thread, many of which I've grown, and lots of them are, at least to me, great tasting. As is oft said, the only way someone will know if they like a variety is to grow it b'c what one person likes another may not like as well since individual tastes differ. So take the advice of others as to what to grow with the proverbial grain of salt since what they like may not be what someone else likes.

For anyone interested in Casino Chips, I saw it's available at Steve's (Heritage) site heritagetomatoseed as well as Jeff Casey's site
(should be listed under vendor sites). Carolyn's annual seed offer is great but it's so popular, it doesn't stay open long. I never saw an offer fill up so fast! So, if you have to have it.... Darlene |

So I just checked Steve's site and yes, seeds for Casino Chips available in October. I checked Tania's site and all she has for seed sources for Casino Chips is Jeff Casey right now which makes sense since Steve at his website said not available until October, and yes, it IS Oct but there's always a lag time before Tania can update pages for varieties. Quite frankly I don't know how Tania does it all. Raises her own plants for seed and sells seed for about 600 varieties, and then does all the entry work for all the new varieties that appear, then updates the ones already there, and then does a lot of her own research on the backgrounds of varieties. OK, I feel tired now just posting about all she does. So methinks I'll go get the AM paper and sit down and read what the news is for today, and msot of the time I don't even WANT to know what the news is, as I hibernate in my own cocoon.

of Galina's Yellow and Tommy Toe for the benefit of the OP, so they would know what to expect from those. Black Plum is sweeter than either of those, with a little zing to it. I grew Sunsugar last year, sweet and tasty, despite less than optimum weather.

garden. I know you should try them a few years before giving a final judgement, but I have not tried them since. I will try Tommy Toe red next year, along with some other cherries. |

OK Deborah, I'll take your name off the seed pack I might have sent you from the seed offer.
The fact is I that I would much prefer that folks here support the many seed sites that do sell seeds and many of the owners are Tville members as you can see from the list Mischka put up in the Seed and Plant Forum, b'c it's their livelihood, while I'm retired and just like to play around with mostly new varieties that will be new to all or most to offer to others to get them out there in circulation so there's public access. And I can't do that without the help of several others, Craig in NC for growing my plants for me and Lee and Shoe in NC for seed production as well as Neil in IL for the same. And I just can't expect Lee and Shoe and Neil to do this forever, although Craig has said he will always be able to grow my seedlings for me and Shoe has said he would like to continue doing seed production. Which is why I send seeds of new ones for trial to quite a few seed sites where I've known the owners for a long time and up until now have been SSE lisiting ones where I have enough seed, but the latter is going to change for the 2013 SSE Yearbook as I've said in several posts now.

Deborah, I was not able to send you a pm. Send me your address so I can
mail you the seeds. You need to fix it so you can get private messages. Linda |
