I purchased big packs of all the Bumble Bee's so I will be growing many plants and all my customers who purchase plants in the spring will be growing Bumble Bee's. There will be lots of Bumble Bee's in western WI!

And Johnny's is the greatest....just saying

I agree, Johnny's sets an excellent example that other suppliers have a hard time keeping up with.

Fred, you mentioned that PB is open-pollinated. Was that with respect to the seed source for PB that Johnny's uses, or ?

Johnny's, and other vendors carry the same lot of Purple Bumble Bee seed this year (all from Aaron Whaley). It is the best line out there.

I sold a limited amount of seed last year (via the Artisan Seeds website) and it turned out to have some segregation for a "green bumble bee" in it. However, based on what I saw this past summer where Aaron's seed was produced, the seed that will be sold this year at Johnny's and other places will be true breeding.

I will tell you what I mean.

Hybrid as to how we discuss it here and have done so for many years now.
The same goes for open pollinated.

I really dont want to get into a discussion as to how all tomatoes are hybrid.

Thanks for the clarification ... and I'll second that about Aaron Whaley.

Does anyone else agree that Purple Bumblebee is crunchy?

It looks too oblong to me. Purple Bumblebee is round, and in some cases even a bit flattened.

There are some other purple cherry tomatoes with green stripes out there, and one of them is a hybrid that seems to be available to growers in Mexico, but not in the US.

Relative to other cherry tomatoes, I would say that it is.

I have tried for two years to grow Black Cherry. Last year, the rain drowned them. This year the seeds grew about an inch tall and stopped growing...I think I liquid MG fed them to death?

I do have:

Bosque Blue Bumblebee
Pink bumblebee
Purple Bumblebee
Sunrise Bumblebee

Growing in solo cups and they look happy. And no, I haven't liquid MG fed them.

Thanks Fred. I was hoping you might say that it was due to weather conditions or something. They would be great for market gardeners though, and they don't split. I thought they made fabulous sun-dried tomatoes.

I think they tend towards crunchy, and weather conditions effect the final outcome too.
