Tania,

250-300 tomato plants plus lettuce and your other veggies just in this garden area alone? You DO make good use of your space! Beautiful!

Lyn,

most of the tomato plants are in pots on the staircase and the balcony upstairs.

yes, it is also quite crowded there!

I forgot to mention 5 zucchini plants.

Bill, your days must be pretty hot compared to ours

Today is quite chilly here, in the lower 60s. No sun, it looks like it is going to rain again for 2 days.

How do I keep up with so many tomato plants? I was thinking about how 125 tomato would keep someone busy all the time... and I think I figured out the answer! Our climate does not make them very productive, so there is not much picking involved. We do not spray, do not prune, rarely water the ones in the ground (maybe 3 times in the entire season), and we do not fertilize anything after the plants are set out. We do not do any weeding in tomato beds, they are mulched with straw and burlap bags. The plants in the ground are not staked, they grow on wire mesh. So the biggest job is to plant them out and then pull them out at the end of the season. All I do in between is to walk around and enjoy the scenery . I am such a lazy gardener!

Actually, the biggest job is still to deal with the harvest, as far as seed saving is concerned (and sauce making as a consequence of that). That is a huge job, I agree.

Watering all the container plants takes about 1-2 hr/day, unless there is rain in the forecast.

Cheers,
Tatiana

You have a dream garden, Tania! So much variety so neatly arranged. How many acres does your property consist of? You really make the most of your space.
