Heaviest yielder 2013
Caspian Pink, my mothership plant, yielded 60 tomatoes= 34.30lbs, average size .57lbs, seven were over a pound, the biggest was 1.67lbs
Had an Early Girl that yielded 25.06lbs from 117 tomatoes. 1884 yielded 20.00lbs+ from every plant. Lost track on others, Illdi yielded a bazillion yellow cherry tomatoes that are good... thirst quenchers. |

AKmark,
You have very impressive tomatoes! I am also impressed with your ability to quote statistics on your plants production. Would you mind elaborating on how you keep track of your plants' production? I tried to keep stats on my plants this year but the administration overwhelmed me with 240 plants so I gave up. Thanks, Charley |

Tracking plants
I just pick a couple plants from a few different varieties and keep up on the notes. I write the weight of each fruit as soon as I harvest it, or like many of my notes on certain plants, the numbers get jumbled. I also plan on tracking weights of like varieties ,in different areas of the greenhouse. I've noticed some do not like the length of day up here, or the South wall, others love it, Im just curious what the difference will be, from north to south sides.
For me, it did away with the myth that heirlooms are hard to grow and do not yield well in Alaska. |

Thanks mark,
Using "samples" to monitor production looks to me much more feasible. Charley |

Many varieties that I'll hopefully be growing next year.
Those 'twins' are fun to watch - I had a few from Black Krim plants towards the end of the summer. Would not mind to have them from Green Zebra and others as well! |

Illdi
Carolyn, please share the photo if you want, I think I have two different ones posted. The Illdi variety is a jaw dropper to look at and the fruit is sweet, alittle tangy, but not as powerful as a good Sungold. However... it still ranks high, is good to just munch, has pretty fruit, and it produces alot more, hundreds and hundreds per plant.
Tomatofest was my seed source for these. I equally enjoyed your thread, and have learned alot from some good folks here. Good luck in the mater patch, Mark O. |

I showed those pics to my Dad and threatened to plant an Ildi on my parents' patio next year. He was duly shocked

Boredom
I was looking through pictures ,bored and cold, and came across this chip I had lost, which has some good pictures on it. Anyway, I'll post a few every now and then.

Black Cherry
I love these, not a huge yielder for me though. I like how they look next to yellow cherries in a pile. Anyway

Black Cherry and yellow cherries do look good together.
I like Amish Gold and Black Plum together. They really look royal and I could sell a mixed pint of those in a flash at the growers market. |

True Charley
I have that plant right at the front door of my tomato greenhouse. When people stop in and ask about a tomato, I will say something like, "hey have you ever had a black tomato," then I give them a sample. The rest is easy after that. Samples sell product if you can back the claim.
