Black Tomato Ranking Question

Of course, there are many variables when growing and comparing tomatoes. I will say...last year was the first year I planted Cherokee Purple. Wow! They became my favorite tomato last year (very productive too). Honestly, I only plant out 7-8 varieties every year...so the people who are putting out 30-40 varieties (you guys are nuts!)...might like others even more.

Has anyone in the U.S. obtained seeds of Margaret Curtain directly from the Koanga Institute? They are telling me there is no way to ship them to my address. The one U.S. source that I can locate is sold out. Perhaps there is a way to resolve the problem with the New Zealand source?

This online site in New Zeland has seeds and shows an option for shipping to the U.S.. That is if you dont mind waiting for your seeds.

I wonder if one of our N. Z. members (are you reading this Richard?) would be able to purchase and send a large amount of seed to a member here where it could subsequently be shared out. With proper compensation of course!

Would the one U.S. source be the Secret Seed Cartel? Terry lists it, but I could not find it described as being sold out.

I think it was just about the most dispersed variety in the large tomato swap last year. About 40 people received packs, so there should be no shortage of seeds in the fall.

recommend you try and source some starts and plant them out . I realize you said for 2015, but jeez, the growing season just started so there is nothing like some actual data! whats holding you back from planting some extra?

Ha, I know. But my tomato seeds were started and all my space is now taken with happily growing tomatoes. 2015 will have to be the year of the Black Tomato! In addition to my usual Black Krim, I'm also growing Black and Brown Boar and Purple Bumble Bee that fall into the Black/Purple camp.

Received Margaret Curtain seed in Gary's swap this year and it is growing well. I will save seed from MC this fall for certain as I am sure others will. I will be happy to share for next spring's planting

The Black and Brown Boar I've got growing in a bucket is doing well....a pretty tomato at the green stage.
