Which brings us back to the question of the year: What is the variety the man is holding in his right hand? Is it a secret? an anomaly? |

I recognize the ones in his left hand, yes indeed. The ones in his right hand, none of the three "De Colgar" I grew are a match for those, based on ribbing and size.
I'm going through a few more, if I bump into the anomaly I'll definitely announce it. I'll try to be less cryptic in my future posts. Great Friday to all! |

Mark,I just realized that Ilex had discussed the Ribera issue in detail in the other thread,it does get confusing.
Gerarldo has been growing out quite a few from Ilex that I sent him, including Ribera, which is why I said in the other thread I was putting 3 folks on a group em,and did, and we are still addressing some issues of this and that with some varieties, which is why Gerardo said what he did above. I just Pmed someone else about the ripe color of what he got with a a variety and on and on it goes. I missed some of the posts in the other thread where I lex explained about Ribera since I had a deadline to meet re getting my tax stuff in. There is something I'd like your opinion about, re a link,it has nothing to do with anyone except you and me. You've said that the PM system doesn't work for you is that still true, and surely you still have my em addy, but if not,it's cmale@aol.com Please e-mail me. Carolyn

Lots of green, decent fruit set
Middle row doing well. 9 slots on the tube and converted H2O containers with drip irrigation. Bamboo supports seem to be doing the job well.
middle row.jpg This is what one end of this middle row looks like, Zluta kytice stretching in the clay pot, Pruden's Purple on the left impressing with beautiful flowers. On the right Noire Charbonneuse zluta.jpg And the other end of this row has an even larger clay pot with a CRW cage. This particular Terhune Competition RL has been growing in a 5 gal container for almost 8 months now, and its latest rebirth after being trimmed down completely has taken over the neighboring Lavender Lake's CRW cage. Gerardo, what is the black fly with the long elliptical wings in the first photo? I have that, I think I need an ID.

Gracias Worth!
M: not sure. I use it as my indicator bug, if it's around then the other guys are too. From the wings and colors I think it might be a Sciarid spp, definitely not S. stagnalis. They are tiny so hard to really ID. Whiteflies, thrips and these guys were having a small party. I shut it down early this AM with delta-neem-daconil combo. Ran out of DE so time to order up again. Any reqs on food grade DE? |

Gerardo, I use DE from Lowe's store, brand name is Garden Safe. It is 4 pound bag for about $9.
Sorry you have to deal with trips. A week ago I picked my last green Elgin pink. They are really great tasting fruits. Thanks to Marsha (seeds were from her), she is so generous.
