I realize that being Russian/former Soviet is not a guarantee of cold tolerance, but it certainly seems like a good place to start looking.
Great pics as always. I bet that corn would love some Cal Nitrate. |

In the spirit of sharing, here's a few counter loiterers, ready for seed and BLT purposes. A few months ago I bet on blacks and they've provided, Amazon Chocolate, Cherokee Purple, Paul Robeson, Noire Charbonneusse. Anna Maria's Heart puts out real pretty ones, it's a shame most show TSWV battle scars. Iraqi Heart led the pack of those most severely affected, followed by V. Ukho and Daniels. Andreie's Surpriz produced two really large tomatoes and then fizzled out. Taste test forthcoming. Sliced one is Mykhalych. counter for a few days.jpg This morning I picked some good ones, they'll finish maturing on the counter. Elgins are big, yeah Marsha! this am.jpg elgins.jpg |

My Elgins are getting HUGE! So glad your results are good. I guess IH doesn't like your area, but she's doing mighty fine here. Love your progress.

Did you taste the Noire Charbonneusse yet? I have some seeds left and didn't get to try it last summer.

Noire Charbonneuse, high pass.
Elgin Pink is a strong plant with BIG fruit. Me likey, two thumbs up.
Noire Charbonneuse is a solid black, reminiscent of Carbon. Really shines on the texture front. Next ones will be skewered and grilled to bring out their mojo. Trying Amazon Choc, Ch Purple, Dark Italian, Lavender Lake, and Paul Robeson grown under similar conditions in the next few days. http://t.tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Noire_Charbonneuse Golden hour at the beach produces bright pics away from the sun: front.jpg my front bottom.jpg And then in the sun: noire charb sliced.jpg The official taste tester chimes in: true taste test.jpg High Pass awarded! taste test passed.jpg |

Love the pictures of your boy, as you refer to him, and yes, also the tomato pictures as well.
Last time I knew there was no agreement on what Lavender Lake should be or background . Here's the search and Tania's link ( must see) is there as well. https://www.google.com/search?q=lave..._AUIBygA&dpr=1 Carolyn, who knows she owes you an e-mail, she'll get to it eventually. Just lots happening here at home right now and trying to meet obligations at idig and now DG, which was a surprise, but maybe 80 % of the time, when I have time, I'm here at TV several times a day.

Really amazing Gerardo! I tried growing some tomatoes back in October but they all got powdery mildew and looked terrible. I'm going to have to wait until February like usual before I start them again.

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Sirenevoe_Ozero And yes, my beautiful boy as I always say to him. Lots of moderator hats keep your day interesting I hope. And he's nice too, pretty far from the mini tyrants that rule the land. It's hit or miss this time of year, sometimes it works out. I just posted the nice pics, there's about an equal amount of plants that are down for the count due to various ailments, as well as many tomatoes lost to disease pressures and attacks. I'm aggressive with Neem early on, and it seems to help. |

Beach Garden is getting time. I've already worked over a 5 by 12 ft stretch, and to get down to 12 inches or so I must have pulled out over 100 round beach stones and enough pieces of broken concrete slab to create a map of the Aegean Islands. I put in a fair amount of organic matter to make up for this filler.
The other spot that gets good sun is perfect for a hugelkultur trench. That's project #2. I just have to be very obvious about it being a gardening project, as the initial phase of the hugelkultur project can easily be misinterpreted, especially around here. |
