Default Tomatoes in Part Shade

These are the ten tomatoes up by the house (all different varieties) plus eggplant and dill at the far end. They get full sun from about 10am to 4:00 or so and seem to like not having full bore sun all day. These photos were taken around 10:30 this morning. I can't wait until they ripen! *tapping foot impatiently*

Default Garden Tomato Foliage Improving

Oh my, there has been a temperature turnaround since that streak of upper 90's and 100's has broken. Lately we've had four days of rain followed by two cloudy cool days and the tomatoes are loving it, especially these that are in full all day sun down in the garden. Yesterday the high was only 69! Totally amazing and soooo nice!

Left to Right: Boxcar Willie, Earl's Polish, Marianna's Peace, Thessaloniki, SOTW

The lower foliage on this Thessaloniki is so curled from growing in the heat but the new top foliage produced in cooler weather is just fine:

Same thing with SOTW:

I'm also noticing more fruit set since the weather turned except for Earl's Polish. There's only one tomato on the whole plant. Maybe a Polish tomato doesn't like the weather here in Georgia!

Short answer is "some of both". We eat a lot of them fresh, but also can/freeze a lot for later use (almost 20 gallons last year) I'm also faced with the spectre of my wife's moocher family, who will gladly sit back and ask when their tomatoes are gonna be ripe...It's a bit taxing at times...

Thanks. The weather went from heating to AC in litterarly four days. Let's hope late blight doesn't come with the change like last year.

First time I'm seeing the Cherokee Lime Stripes and GGWT. Makes me realize that if I want the more flamboyant varieties I am going to have to grow from seeds next year.

Seeing Brad Gates tomatoes was enlightening. I now grow more striped and bicolor and odd color tomatoes than anything else. I just wish Pink Berkeley Tie Dye grew better in my conditions but unfortunately it’s only good about every 4th year.

Prior to this year I mostly ordered seedlings through the mail. This winter I finally set up a seed starting area in the garage and went a little overboard with seeds, lol. So many more choices with seeds.
