I have a big favor to ask of those of you who got Mareko Fana seeds from me last year:

As many of you may know, we are starting a seed company this year (Artisan Seeds). One of our goals is to introduce little-known varieties of exceptional quality. We are going to release both a red and a brown Mareko Fana, another Ethiopian pepper and two Ethiopian mustards.

The question is "when?"

We are trying to raise money by essentially pre-selling seeds for these varieties and other stuff from our farm. This will cover the costs of producing the seed this summer (rent, water, labor, packaging, etc.), and will allow us to release all these varieties THIS YEAR.

It is critical for projects like this that potential pledgers can see testimonials from people familiar with the varieties (Mareko Fana in this case). Pledgers will want to know if we are just blowing smoke....

If you liked the Mareko Fana peppers we sent last year, and you would like to see them made available to gardeners and small farmers please provide your comments in

One more thing -- I am embarrassed to admit this, but I think I missed a person or two last year, when I was sending seed out. If I missed you last year, please PM me and I will send seed out. The seed is sitting right in front of me, with the envelopes and stamps, etc.

I planted the seeds you gave me in one raised bed along with Numex
peppers. All the peppers including the Numex has some ugly large
brown spots on the leaves. Soon after the leaves starting falling off.
Don't know what disease this was, maybe a pepper blight, but it was
only in that raised bed. Unfortunately I did not get a good pepper to
eat, so sorry I can't make a comment for you.
I have since made this bed into a perennial flower bed. No more veggies
in it.

We are selling a few seeds, but this is our signature Mareko Fana product.
