At 9pm, the heat index was still 101. That isn't odd for July, but it is for June here. It's like standing behind an air conditioner exhaust but without the airflow. I brought in the tomato seedlings because of the heat. There's a 90% chance of thunderstorms starting around 3am. The seedlings wouldn't make through those conditions.

Now that you mention it, the index here at 90° is 104. Trouble is that there's no wind to speak of, so the body's natural defense is defeated. Even Minnie is staying in. At times like this, A/C is a guilty pleasure.

Dripping wet again. Just came in from watering and got a tiny little sprinkle out there while I was out. Like so tiny it was about 5 seconds. If that's all the rain I get each day it will be crazy.
It's hot out there, it's 7:44 am 85 degrees and 79% humidity. Another high heat index today. We broke some records around here yesterday. A town a few miles away was hit with 117 degree without the heat index. Wow, glad I wasn't in that one.

Today 72F and sunny, yesterday rainy all day and 61F for the high. Craziness that after 3 days of blazing 90's that I wore a jacket all day yesterday. I'm keeping an eye out for mold, these conditions seem to bring it out.

So nice, a break from the heat! And rain just when I needed it, too. Turned off the air and opened windows and doors, nice breezes to enjoy after the windy storm went through.

Got a good rain through the night and it sprinkled about 15 minutes ago. The forecast is for rain the through Friday this week. Temp out there is 76 degrees and 97% humidity. It's actually kind of cool out there in-spite of the high humidity. The garden looks pretty well wet but I will keep and eye to make sure it doesn't dry out again like the last time we had rain. I guess it just didn't get into the pots well enough last time.

We got rain last night too... finally, enough to call it a rain! So thank goodness. As every living thing is in need.
Today it is scorching again... UV 9 is simply blinding after a string of overcast days. In the greenhouse the high UV and sun is too much for the plants. Blossoms drop. Today several plants are also wilting, and watering didn't help. They get used to the overcast situation and then when the sun shines they can't take it. I may end up with one or two tomatoes per plant. We went straight from too cold to plant, to too hot to set. They'd be doing much better outdoors than under glass, I think tomorrow may be my day to drag outdoors every plant that isn't nailed to the spot. |
