I reckon a poll should run at the end of this Northern hemisphere growing season to actually decide which is the ugliest tomato.
Maybe even us in southern hemisphere could have a contest also?

Yep, I was planning on putting up a poll at the end of the season. Now I just need to know when that is...

That is what I was kind of thinking. With so many different growing seasons it would make sense to just cut off at the calendar year. So even though it started late I will end on Jan. 1st for this year.

Good idea! I've still got mostly green ones. One of them is looking like it might be a contender for this contest. We'll see!

Would that I had some tomatoes this season that could aspire to ugliness, but alas, only a few cherry varieties and one pink heart, which was a heart and NOT ugly.Temp was 39F this AM, but perhaps a few more weeks with higher temps, so fingers and toes crossed. or as the situation unfolds.
I'm telling you, some of those ugly heart shaped ones need cardiac surgery ASAP.

Oh, Larry I love it! I don't know what I would have done if I had seen that thing growing on one of my tomato plants. The "warts" around the "lips" make it extra scary! Eeeeeewwww!

Kath, Tania, Robin, thanks! I just found the tag that was with the plant when I bought it: "Hawaiian Pineapple" by Sweetwater nursery in Sebastopol, CA. Not quite what I pictured when I stuck it into the pot...

We dont grow ugly tomatoes here in the estate gardens.
If one starts to appear as though it is going to be ugly it gets sent off to charm school and plastic surgery. Worth |

Funny, I know that in the past I (and I am sure many others) have culled out any fused blossoms because they don't end up looking too nice. But now I am sure many are rethinking that approach. Now those tomatoes may mean bragging rights!

Think COLON and related. That's gotta evoke "UGLY".
Or perhaps it's some grotesque beetle larva. Purple Calabash. |
