We had severe thunderstorm warnings this afternoon, but storms went south f here today. My tomato plants remain upright. Some of them have a lot of breakage from yesterday's weather shenanigans, though. :/ |

I thought I was going to beat the heat today. I mowed this morning. The temperature was in the low to mid 80s. I only mowed in the shade. I was sweating as I should be, but the humidity started making me feel dizzy. Highs in the 80s with high humidity is just as bad as highs in the 90s with lower humidity.
I shut the mower down and went inside. Sweat started pouring off of me like getting out of the shower without drying off. The dizziness is gone. It should get to 100 today with a heat index of 105+. |

I hope you feel better now Salt.
It was 84 degrees this morning and 87% humidity around 7:30 am when I went out to water. It was definitely not cool even in the shade.

I see flash flooding in Kansas city on the weather.com website. It is loaded with a bunch of ads so I won't post the link. I hope if you are in that flooding you are safe.
Possible tropical storm headed for Corpus Christi this coming friday. I will keep you all up to date on it. We have some work to do. Tie garden buckets and such together, board the windows, just general get everything out of the danger of blowing away too easily. I know if a bad hurricane hits it won't matter at all. We are only 5 miles from the bay out here so flooding can happen in our area if a bad storm comes in. It's 77 degrees outside right now with 81% humidity.

I have been quite busy today. Bought new plywood for hubby while he was at work because ours wasn't looking so good. I bought some new fangled kind of attachment so hubby has to do it once and just remove some wing nuts with washer when the storm passes. It will be easy to put them back on with the wingnuts and washers. Probably 5 minutes per window next time we need it. He always used screws, then filled the holes, then painted over that. This was not cheap but I think a far better option in the long run. Hubby is busy putting the new cut plywood on the windows. Three of the 6 windows are done and he is cutting the rest of the wood to put them on tomorrow. We have the two doors to do also. It sure is nice having that panel saw in the garage. Makes quick work of a sheet of plywood. Lot's of people at Lowe's, plywood and generators flying out the door. Not one house on the two streets I drive in on have any activity for protecting their windows. I know if a hurricane comes through here we probably won't have a house left. If a strong tropical storm comes through we might get through without too much damage. Best to prepare for it now. I have no idea what my neighbors are thinking. I went to the grocery store and picked up a few gallons of water and a few different food items. Then filled my gas tank. Now I am making dinner. I hurt, and I am exhausted, but it will be okay. Thanks for the well wishes Steve.

Sorry, I didn't see this yesterday. I felt better about 10 afterwards. Yesterday morning, I got to finish mowing well before the eclipse.

Rockporter, if a hurricane happens from the redevelopment of once tropical storm Harvey - yes it could be bad. What info I'm getting online and the local news - is they don't have a clue. It's like they are downplaying it, but trying to say it is a possibility. I wish I could make money giving a halfa... sketchy forecast.
One of my main believing's in life is, "It's better to be safe than sorry." |

This storm is so iffy that is the problem. People are being complacent around here. It just amazes me that I don't see others in out neighborhood preparing their houses for it. It's kind of sad really. If it is just a bad tropical storm their will still be wind and we want to at least try to protect the windows from that. What I do see right now is 4 days of extremely heavy rain. Think I am going to pull up my basil and save it by freezing it. I'll cut my chives down and freeze them also. Pick the last of the bell peppers that are on the plants and pull them. Then just not even worry about the rest of the stuff out there.

Where is is supposed to hit? Tropical storms are nasty and just a dangerous if not more than a huurican because people dont respect them. From the map it looks like I might get some rain out of it. I hope so. Worth |

The last hurricane that effected me I got on my motorcycle and rode with the wind.
Very exhilarating. Worth |

Something blew into town yesterday, very fierce rain and wind and now temps are going to be cooler. What a summer this has been in this region. Luckily my tomatoes survived, but it looks like I'll be doing some early picking!
