Default Your desert island tomato

You are stranded on a desert island, with perfect tomato growing conditions, and you can only have the seeds from 1 tomato.

What seeds do you bring and why?

I hope the answers of the many experience growers will help newer growers like myself in future selections. I find the top 10/20/30 lists get a bit daunting after 20 people post you have hundreds of varieties to think about.

Thanks

Mark

Black from Tula, it is the workhorse of my garden, good for anything and really a good looking tomato with some disease resistance...at least in my garden!

Mark, thanks - I always love those top tomato lists. You are right, I start listing the ones I want to try and when I get to 50 or 60 I get overwhelmed. Maybe this will help me also.

mine would have to be my great uncle steves italian plum.

the plant and the tomato look pretty similar to prue, but different flavor.
i consider it to be a multi use tomato. its good fresh, cooked or canned. meaty, but not dry like some paste varieties with a nice tomatoey flavor. gotta grow uncle steves.

See, I could never narrow it down to one, so I don't even try.

If I were stranded on a desert with ideal tomato growing conditions and only one variety I would rage against the cruel Fates, then totter off to sulk.

A not quite stable cross of some really good parents...that way in a few seasons, I'd have a whole bunch of different tomatoes to work with.

We've been to the desert island, before.

Tormato

P.S. The only thing I'd do different is set sail to a second island having Brandywine Sudduth.

Default parents unstable?

All this time I have been trying to be a stable parent and now proof that being an unstable parent may have advantages?? What parents, very unstable, would I need to have suddiths, sungold, cherokee purple, opalka, and NAR? Wheat seeds? Do we get to pick one animal companion to share the island with-- make sure the goat doesn't eat your tom plant!!

I would like a red tomato with good taste, easy to grow, and high production thru out the growing season so I could eat all I want; so I think I would pick a good red cherry.
