Hybrid cheap Hydro seed starter ideal

Here is an ideal I had that I might try one day next week.

The ideal is to use a jiffy pod pro seed Greenhouse.



These are about $6 or less at a box store.

These have a tray inside that hold the pods and allows for about an inch of water or air space under the pods.

My ideal would be to raise that up 1 -2 inches from underneath creating in ideal at least a shallow water hydroponics system by placing an air stone inside. giving a couple inches of water and allowing 1/2 to an inch of air space between the water and the jiffy pods.

The ideal is that the air stone would oxygenate the water and the moister in the air space will be wicked up to the seed/ seedlings by the jiffy pod.

The air pump and air stones and tubing really are the only additional cost to the system I use already.

Anyways that is the basic ideal.

I will try and post some pics etc... when I do it.

Any thoughts or ideals would be great thanks.

Thanks, and yea I have seen a few different ones of those the floating aspect is good and the plugs they use are like the rapid rooter type plugs. That gets kinda expensive if you are doing a lot of plants (least for me) as no where local to me sells the replacement plugs. It also does not oxygenate the water at all. The ideal is not really to water itself (least not for the sake of it) but to encourage better root and plant development.

If I had a greenhouse I might would go with the Float table system (large version of what you posted) used for tobacco starts but that is just too heavy and too much hassle in my house.

LOL think we all are. Another reason I want it is cause my house humidity is super low. If I use a humidifier it gets too humid and if not too low.

Also trying to keep it shallow for space concerns as well as a DWC (deep water system) would not develope the type of roots I want for plant out in soil.

I got their catalogue and on cover they have a $25.00 gift certificate to try their products free. Expires March 2nd. I showed that to hubby last week and were debating on ordering that or something.

One of my catalogs had a $25 dollar off but the fine print says on order of $50 or more. Not saying yours says that but still thats a good deal too I guess.

With the system I am trying to figure out I already have 3 of the 72 pod greenhouses and wanting a forth, so if it works I can add an air manifold for about 5-6 bux and run an air stone to each one.

Also trying to buy local as much as possible. Shipping charges add up quick.

I started a thread called Puny Roots when I seen the roots from that All roots seed starting system. My roots never looked anything close to that. Since I have the coupon I seriously am considering getting that. Do you think it really works like that little pot with those beautiful roots

Possibly, the same concept works well on tobacco starts and gave good roots.

My understanding of the plugs are that they have more void space (air space) roots can grow faster in air than in soil. Same concept in a lot of hydroponics as long as the roots stay moist.

If its pretty much free what do you really have to lose by trying their system?

True. Lose seeds? I've never grown Hydropnic so I could do many things wrong??

Then again, I could use that $25 toward something else but I am leaning toward that item.

I ended up using that $25 coupon on that 55 Cell All Roots Seed Starting Kit. I'm not that very impressed with it. I planted 55 pepper plants on March 15 and so far 33 have came up. Some of the plants look frayed from the lights and I am trying to be careful and have them high enough but such uneven growth. They are alot smaller then the ones that I planted in my soiless mix a week earlier. They appear to be growing on outer border and not so much in the middle. Uneven heat? Anyway, this is what they look like.
