Seed from a BER?

I have a small hoy tomato that is nice and red ripe--except it has BER. Would the seed be OK? Its going to be a long time before I get any other fruit from the late plant and I don't want to risk not having any seed saved. I might replace it later on if I get a better tomato.

Ken, it is my understanding that BER is a physiological problem, so the seeds should be just fine.

I dont see why it wouldn't, BER is a symptom of nutrient deficiency (magnesium) not a disease.

Most likely caused by uneven watering, soil getting too dry.

I figure you know this but I will say it anyway for the benefit of those who might not.

Thanks, I thought so, just needed backup to my old brain. Uneven watering? you better believe it. Hottest August on record, its now 45 degrees right now (NE Colorado)

Are seeds from an over-ripe tomato also ok? One of my bagged fruits got away from me, was split and a bit yucky - I saved the seeds from the good part.

Yes they are, you can save seeds from a rotten tomato.
I nature a tomato rots and the seeds will still sprout.
