Growing in Small Containers

I built a window box a while back and stuck a large clone of a cherry in it a couple weeks ago. The box is a foot deep, two feet wide and six inches across. So I'm wondering, how should I treat my plant differently? Extra water, to keep root size down? Fertilizer?

It should do fine. Keep it well fertilized and watered once it starts to take off and you should get plenty fruit. I grow many varieties in 3 gallon pots.

I'd keep a close eye on the watering, a smaller container can dry out quicker. And because of the extra water, you may need to feed a little more. I can be done though. Here's three Sunsugar cherries that went into this rather small planter box. It's about 8"x6" by 3', not ideal, but I had three left and didn't want to just toss them. Looks like they're doing pretty good. But on the hotter days I have to water them twice a day.

Thanks guys. Those maters look like they're doing well, Barb! My dad has raised me to think of tomatoes as needing a lot of dirt, but I'm trying to get creative with limited space. Thanks for the encouragement.

Is that really a foot deep? I had problems with root rot in shallow containers.

I think you will be fine, my mom use to grow her patio tomatoes in one gallon milk jugs, best tomatoes she ever grew. She fertilized once a week and watered everyday. They were in direct sun.
