Moldy Seed Saving Technique?

I sent for some seed, I received a bunch of smashed rotten seeds and a list of instructions. I sent a refund message and in the reply the guy tells me the "rotton" seeds are a special technique. I've heard of fermenting Tomato seeds, but these are peppers. Anybody have any light to shed on this "rotton" practice?

The "rotton" few i added in were allowed to mold as i have found by experience and research that this classic seed saving technique coats the seed with a layer of bacteria that speeds the release of the outer shell at germination.

Not ever heard of it, but it is possible. I would try it and see. If it works, let us all know please.

The seller is full of it. Fermenting the gel sac on tomato seeds is done so that it takea less time to germinate. The gel contains growth inhibitors. I'm sure you know this stuff already.

As for peppers, there is no such need to ferment or allow the seeds to rot.

I'm curious about the pepper type and seller. What kind did you buy? Was it an eBay purchase?

The quickest germination I've ever had with peppers is to take the seed right out of a pepper and plant it.

It sounds like the original vendor tried separating seeds with a blender or something like that.

Sheepishly, I did get them on eBay. He'll take them back, but I thought I might get something I was looking for. marktutt has the seeds I want, and I discovered his offer after I had ordered the seed.

Guy is here in TN, has 100% positive feedback, and 609 sales. It doesn't actually look like he used some kind of special technique, rather it looks like he tried drying the pepper, or just left it in the bucket.

It looks (Now that I look harder...) like the only thing this guy is selling. He's touting this as the Asheville Growers Farm. Not sure what this means...

So far that's 2 strikes against eBay. I wrote in one post about a purple tomato, which I din't buy, turns out to be an eggplant! Now this with a bunch of completely unusable seeds and a BS story about why they're discolored and broken...

The problem with Ebay and seeds is that the feed back system doesn't allow input far enough from the sale to allow negatives for things like poor germination or wrong type.
