WOW! Persimmon?
A friend gave me 3 bagged tomatoes, tonight form plants I grew for him. They were varieties I also had before I was frozen out this spring. Marianna's Peace, Boondocks & Caspian Pink.
Anyway, I was surprised when I opened the bagged marked "Boondocks" to find ths beautifully colored orange tomato inside. I'm not stupid, I knew it wasn't Boondocks. It was pure orange inside and out. I figured it out I think. I had tried to grow those free Persimmon seeds from TGS and they were no shows, so I reseeded with Boondocks I guess. I must have stirred up the lost seed and caused a Persimmon to germinate. I sent him an email to see if the plant is regular leaf. If not, we do have a mystery. The fruit was meaty and the taste a little fruity with a interesting tartness. Reminded me of an orange, the way it had zip. I saved seed just in case it turns out to be potato leaf, because then I have no idea. I will for now assume Persimmon and boy was it good. CECIL

Yeah, The free persimmons were some of our best (and most productive) tomatoes of the year. I sure replant for next year.

That's great to hear. I also got the freebies from TGS and wasn't sure what to do with them because I have limited space and already too many plants.
I have a couple of healthy seedlings I'm going to make sure one of them gets a spot in the garden. |

when suppling some earl's faux seeds, someone sent me persimmon with the sase.
i am NOT a fan of yellow or orange tomates (sun gold and azoychka are the exceptions) as i think they are bland. PERFECT example - kellogg's breakfast, grew it 2 years and while it is the prettiest tomato it tastes blah! i know everyone loves kb but i don't. so is persimmon really flavorful or just another pretty face? tom |
