I planted the tomatoes and peppers this morning it may very well be the earliest I have planted.
Looked at the forcast and no freezing temps for the next week.

Maybe I'll get a jump on the hot weather.
I can easily protect them if it does.

I've always figured it is easier to protect them at the beginning of the season that later in the season because plants are smaller.

That's exciting! Congrats. Hope you have an abundant and tasty season. One of my favorite times is seed starting. I get really compulsive and check on the new seeds sown about like, every 2 hours. Talk about OCD.

I had to plant some today too. I only planted 4 Dwarf Sweet Sue plants and they are in grow buckets on a beer cart so I can move them in if I need to. I want to beat the Florida heat with at least some tomatoes.

Shucks- here in WA my seeds aren't even in pots yet! I think this year will be late getting away from winter.

Good luck. I usually try to plant as close to March 1 as possible. This year I planted on Valentines Day. It was slightly terrifying to plant so early, but I had just read an interview in the local paper in which a local gardening guru suggested planting on February 3 in my area, so I looked at the forecast and went for it. The forecast looks like 70s and 60s through the end of the month, so I have my fingers crossed that it won't get too cold in March. I'm going to wait until March 15 to plant my peppers.

I planted out about this early several years ago and had a monster crop.
It was the last week in February.
I always try to plant out around the first of March.

This morning I was walking around and saw that the Pomegranate trees were putting out leaves and said the devil with it.
Besides the weather is only going to get to the mid 40's at night next week.
I also have a big yard with cedar elm leaves to cover them with if need be.
Trust me it works I have kept very tender plants alive with these things.

I have a sneaky feeling summer is going to come on hard and fast this year.

we are so far away from planting anything here.

gonna be blizzard conditions starting thursday night through friday with up to a foot of snow being dumped.

worth, you have a 3 month head start on me.

Good for you Worth! I have to admit that I'm jealous too, although my winter-grown tomato plants are coming along and there's one red fruit on a Red Robin!

Like Kay, I plan to grow some tomatoes in containers this year with a view to putting them outside on lovely days and bringing them in if the temperature dips. I figure I can grow Sophie's Choice, Jagodka and Early Annie in pots and hopefully have some ripe tomatoes before August for a change.

Until then I will have to live vicariously through you southern growers!
