summer cold or flu?
I came down with some kind of bug that is similar to flu. You know what the Docs say "It's a virus" at least until you get really really sick. Anyway it's driving me crazy because I have been unable to do anything in the garden for a couple of days and the timing couldn't be worse. We are getting light showers every afternoon and diseases are starting to show up; but I just don't have the strength to spray. Saw evidence of a couple of horn worms but can't worry about that now. It is past time for another dose of TTF to be given to my plants. Five days and counting with no pruning so things will be a tangled mess soon. I was going to cull some fruit and tie up my clusters that are overly abundant but that will also have to wait. Tried to go out there yesterday very early while it was still cool and almost collapsed. I am beginning to get a bit desperate because if I don't get a lot better soon I am going to have a terrible mess to deal with.

Sorry to hear that you're feeling so unwell, Bill. It makes you realize just how much you normally accomplish when you're forced to sit back and let things go. So hard to watch, too. Try not to worry too much because that won't help what's going on outside and the stress of it will only make it harder for your body to heal and regain its strength. Drink lots of water, rest and eat good food that's easy to digest. Hope you're on your feet again soon!

So sorry you are sick! I will pray for a speedy recovery. I got some kind of summer cold or something last year. Hard enough to be sick but even worse when it interferes with our gardening!

Bill,
I think I have the same thing. Last time I got sick was about 20 years ago. The only thing on my garden agenda is setting up bean poles. That's going to be delayed, hopefully, only a few days. Gary |

I got hit with something like that 3 days ago except it was all sinus stuff. I took 10,000 vit C, Mucinex, and Zinc each day, plus 3 Ibuprofen every 4 hours for 24 hrs, and I was able to function somewhat, although I had to sleep sitting up for one night. At the end I was sweating profusely and I finally feel about 90% recovered.
I wish you a speedy recovery too. Charley |

Bless your heart. Hope you are feeling better soon! I know how you feel about being unable to tend to your garden. My mom just had surgery and I will be taking care of her out of town. Dry as a bone until the last couple of days and then rain as soon as I have to leave. I hope I have trained my husband well enough to spray for me and look for disease.

Thanks everyone. Despite being slightly feverish and coughing my head off I went out and sprayed all my tomatoes with the dilute bleach spray late yesterday afternoon. After four days of afternoon showers I was determined to do a little bit to stop the diseases that were starting to show up. I don't know if it hurt me or helped me but being out in the cool humid air just before dark opened my lungs up a bit. If it weren't for Nyquil around 4am I don't think I would have gotten a minute of sleep but after a two hour nap I woke up this morning feeling a little better. It could be all in my head since I am still coughing my head off but getting something done in the garden just made me feel better.

Whatever the reason, I'm glad to hear you're feeling a bit better today, Bill- that's also good news that your plants got the treatment.

Hi Bill,
Sort of late posting....but I hope you're feeling much better by now! I was a bit under the weather myself a while ago and I know how stressful it can be not being able to get into the garden to do what needs to be done. I don't think my tomatoes got any worse in my absence, but I lost a lot of bean seeds I had soaking for next day plant out the night before I got sick. Have followed you on other threads and good to see that you're apparently improving enough to tackle your weather related disease problems. Hope both you and your plants both make complete recoveries ASAP. Anne |
