Default Tomato - Battle Royale

Tonight we had a battle royale for best tasting tomato of 2014. I have been growing tomatoes for a number of years, but have only recently gotten hooked on Heirlooms. To think of the years I have wasted growing tomatoes like my namesake.

This year I tired four new heirlooms: (Brandywine Pink (UL), Cherokee Purple (UR) Black Krim (LR) and German Johnson (not ready). I also planted last year's taste winner the Mortgage Lifter (LR) as well as the previously planted Abraham Lincoln and Box Car Willie. I also planted a few hybrid toms as well, but those are being used exclusively to feed people at work.

The results . . . Cherokee Purple, Brandywine Pink and Mortgage Lifter. Unfortunately we are going to have to repeat the experiment because the Black Krim was not ripe enough. We had devoured some ripe BK fruit on BLTs earlier in the week. I didn't think it fair to judge the entire lot on my own impatience. I'll update everyone when I can give each tomato a fair taste.

They look scrumptious. Please take an extra bite for me.

Looks like you had some delicious fun. It will still be awhile before I get to try some.

The CP & German Queens have won the taste test in our house this year so far. Still have a few varieties yet to ripen.
