Getting Under lights...
Most of my seeds have sprouted (starting 2 days ago). However, about 1/3 have not. Should I get that flat off the heat mat and under lights now? Will the "cool" garage be OK if it ranges from 50-70F...with occasional night temps to 40 or 45? thanks

The garage seems a little cool but I have grown them under these conditions. Worth |

As soon as I see seeds have sprouted, I remove that pot and immediately place it under the grow light. I check a few times each day. I replace the dome on the tray and wait for the others to germinate.
My grow light is in an unheated laundry room and it's perfect for tomatoes. The colder air keeps my plants stockier and stronger than if I grew them in a warm room, which can cause them to become leggy. You can also blow a gentle fan on them to strengthen the stems.

sounds great....thanks. My wife is growing a bit tired of my tomato passion...so the move from the dining room to the garage will be good! "If mama ain't happy...ain't nobody happy".

But if the other person is the husband, he needs to "know when to fold em"

I'm done messin' around....back to business. Should I water my sprouts (that are now under lights) with a dilute formula of MG fertilizer??? My seed starter in the flats have some juice in them...but I think the peat pellets have no nutrients.

I would wait till the first set of true leaves and then use maybe about 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water.
Opinions will be different on this. |

Worth and I agree on this. Young tomatoes are VERY sensitive to ferts and it is real easy to do them in. Ask me how I know.

I agree. Notice that's a teeny-tiny amount. I think most people's problems with MG come from using too much.
