Greenhouse Fire at Omaha Garden Center
The premiere nursery in Omaha, Mulhalls, went up in flames last night A car went off the road and ran into the greenhouse. To make matters worse, they broke a gas line and the responders couldn't find the gas shut off. Total loss to the greenhouse, not sure about the retail building. Waaahhh!
If you have a greenhouse heated by gas MAKE SURE THE SHUTOFF IS MARKED. - Lisa |

We were in a lift pulling wire in the ceiling. The guy I was with was really close to what he thought was the sprinkler pipe. I told him it wasn't the sprinkler pipe it was the gas line, a 2 inch gas line for the heaters. I had before hand found the main regulator and shutoff valves for it encase something happened. If that gas line would have broken I told him it would filled that warehouse up in no time and explode. Here is the problem. They hide this and main disconnects behind shrubbery so people cant see it. Not good for emergencies. I cant count how many times I have had to look for them. Worth |

oh yeah I work for a gas utility company and if you want to find the meter at any house find the biggest bush and it will be behind it. I routinely stomp bushes.

It was Cinco de Mayo a really big day for us Texans and Mexicans. Part of the test is to shunt out the breaker for the vent hoods. They told us where the breaker was. We shunted out the breaker and that wasn't the breaker. Then the cook started putting mesquite wood on the grill. The whole darn place filled up with smoke. The head vampire is p!ssed and yelling at me. People were leaving the place it was so smokey. I looked everywhere and found everything behind a bunch of bushes outside. Got it turned back on and all was well after awhile. The guy kept yelling at me what are you going to do about this over and over. I just took the check and walked off telling him to cool down dude. One of the worst days of my life at work, smoke rolling down the street. Worth |

Yeah people don't understand that those ugly grey meters and boxes are there for a reason and if someone has to hunt for them it could be loss of customers in your case or loss of buildings in the GH fire, or even life in some cases if no one can find the shut offs.

The fire was later reported as contained to an area that had Christmas merchandise and not the good stuff! What a catastrophe that could have been if it happened during business hours. The area that was not marked is closest to the exit/parking lot. People could have gotten stuck in the back with the gas spewing on in front.
