electric tiller question....

I've about had it with the craftsman gas tiller i got, a small 32cc lightweight piece of junk. was going to till in the added lime and some compost over the steamy christmas weather. yank, yank, yank, sputter, yank, yank, sputter (repeat). i threw it down in disgust and ruined my planned garden day.

got some raised beds and loose soil that doesn't need anything heavy duty. i do need to be able to lift the unit.

thinking about going electric with an earthwise tc70001 model, 8.5a.

i hate yanking on a cord to no avail. would rather just poke a button. why is it that tillers notoriously have terrible carbs? thought about mantis, but the few times i use a tiller, want zero maintenance, really not worth the cost.

true. i use seaform and the "good" 2 cycle oil mix with combative additives. all my stihl equip. runs like a champ. i've got personal bias against craftsman tools with a motor.

also, the air is so thick here it is dripping wet and i'm sure water has gotten into everything. i picked up a bucket in the shop and there was a pool of water. i've got fans running and the heater on my toolboxes.

i did drain the gas from the tiller and added "fresh." however, this is not the first incident of my hateful relationship.

I have no idea on the electric tillers other than get the biggest motor you can.

You post reminded me I needed to start my motorcycle and run some gas through it.

I looked at the one you were talking about I highly suggest you use the 12 gauge cord they suggest.
Nothing will burn up a motor faster than a cord the is too small and too long.

yes, running the a.c. in the shack (house) for christmas. i can see mold colonizing before my eyes.

my neighbor's trike (old vw engine) had a steel gas tank that rusted inside, created quite a mess. if so equipped, i run the gas out of the line and lock up the tank and drain in the spring.

only one model of electric has a 12a motor (sun joe), don't know why they don't go the full 15a on those things - but model listed gets top reviews. just checking to see if anyone else has even used an electric tiller...

Yes, it's the gas, not the tiller. We use canned gas called Trufuel in all of our small engines i.e. tiller, weed eater, blower, etc.

They all start on the first pull now. Since our tiller sits in the garage all year, I think that my husband lets it run dry and then adds Stabil to the tank for over the winter.

I would recommend getting your fuel system cleaned out and then using TruFuel rather than replacing the tiller. It will be cheaper and electric tools never seem to be as powerful.

the tiller was "gifted" to me several years ago. each year it takes longer to start than i use it and generates many expletives. i use red one oil mix, sea foam, and often get the non-corn gas at a marine gas station.

agree that electric is less powerful. the tiller is the only implement that gives me a migrane. i have more craftsman (u.s.a.) tools than allowed by law, but their motorized equip. is junk, imo. i am extremely diligent on my mix and quality of fuel, however, could very well be clogged from previous owner (thus the "gift").

agree on cord gauge. it IS a long run to the garden with extension cord, but do have power to the greenhouse and garden deck area (via cord). I've got a 14g there now.

great post. i have used some of those outlets. get more mpg on the "real" gas and always use for my boat motor, and usually for my 2 cycle mix.

I forgot to mention that you can buy TruFuel at Home Depot or Lowes in the lawn mower departments.

You might think that it is must be expensive to buy small quantities of fuel in a can but it is premixed and has saved us a lot of inconvenience and repairs.

I wouldn't buy it for my car or something with a really big gas tank but for small engines, it is really convenient and works well.

I wish I was near by I could make that puppy purr like a kitten.
After my fiasco last year with my motorcycle and rebuilding everything modifying and putting in an after market programmable spark box no problems at all.
It fired and ran on the third rotation of the motor after a month.

me too.

the plug gets fouled real easy, it will start for 1-2 seconds and then quickly die. maybe i will invest some more time today with the thing. my patience is growing very, very thin.
