Default One of My Favorite Things to Eat

Cooled, crisp rye toast. Drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Two slices of "John's Special" tomato. Salt and pepper. Excellent.

Looks good.
I think mayonnaise would kill the flavor of the bread and oil.

OK, I want to bite. Is there a variety of tomato called "John's Special"? And by the way, I like your taste! I think that it is a perfect way to start the day just as it is there in your pic.

It looks good. I have no doubt that it tastes good, and it's healthy for you.

I think it is really interesting that a couple of you guys thought that this was something I ate for breakfast. In my post I didn't mention when I ate it, and it is the sort of thing I'd be happy to eat at any time. But you are right... it was breakfast. Call me a weirdo, but I take this as further possible support for the hypothesis that when we really tune in we can be connected with each other and know things without having a logical explanation. Or maybe there is a logical explanation... tomatoes on toast might be a common breakfast choice for tomato enthusiasts where you live

Yes, I bought these seeds as "John's Special". I bought the seeds from some local folks who have quite a collection. Here is the description they have for this variety:

"Originally grown in Te Anau for many years and then bought to Motueka and has been grown here for at least 25 years. Named after the person that gave us the seeds. Large beefsteak with a real old fashioned tomatoe taste".

Te Anau located at the southern end of New Zealand where I imagine the growing season might be shorter than where I am. Motueka is just an hour's drive from my place. This is the first season I've grown John's Special, and I don't have any further information about it other than the supplier's description. It appealed to me because I figure that tomatoes grown in my area may have adapted to our particular conditions a little better than varieties purchased from afar. It is likely that this variety had another name when "John" first got some seeds.

I grew two plants of this variety. The vines seem to have less leaf 'die off' compared to some others, and one of the plants had a relatively decent crop. Furthermore, although this season seems to have produced fairly bland fruit, the John's Special had a hint of flavour. So I will try it again to see what happens.

Here is a picture of some whole fruit on the parent vine, you might be able to see the psyllid evidence on one of the leaves.

Put thin sliced onion and hot peppers on it and you would have a cold open faced salsa sandwich.

I haven't had decent rye bread in a long time; I need to find a good bakery that makes it around here. Mmmmmm....it's close to bed time and I hate it when I come across a pic that makes me hungry.

So, Worth1, would you put raw peppers on this? Or do you prefer to cook them? Thanks in advance.
