The Monster In My Backyard
This fused bloom cluster is from one of the Nicholaevna Pinks I'm growing this year. It's an absolutely amazing display. And it'll probably make for one U-G-L-Y tomato, too! |

I guess if you have lots of tomato plants and no fears about productivity. Honestly I'd pinch it off.

I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that. Feldon is probably right about pinching it off, but I don't think I could bring myself to do it.

All three of my Neves Azorian (sp?) Red plants developed huge fused blossoms. I pinched them off. Those plants are the few in my garden that hadn't set fruit and I didn't want the plants to take time to develop what would most assuredly be an ugly inedible tomato. I thought about letting them go and use the seeds, but I've read on here that fused blossom tomatoes are not a good choice for seed saving.
But I have to say that the picture of above is an amazing fused blossom, much bigger than what I had. |

Yep, wiser gardeners than I would probably cut that thing off. I may still, but it's just so cool. Plus, I have way too many plants to really worry about productivity. If it does set, I'd like to see what it looks like before culling it. These two Nicholaevna Pink that I'm growing have already set an impressive number of tomatoes for me. Beautiful plants, too.

Grow it, it just might win the Ugly Contest at CHOPTAG this year. :-)

Kool! Maybe it will look like a flys eyeball (multi-facated).
Love to know how you got the image in the thread. I couldn't get mne to do that. CECIL

cecil,
I hosted my image on ImageShack and then simply pasted the link in the form field that the 'Insert Image" button pops-up. I did finally cull the flower as it didn't have a any real chance of producing a nice, tasty tomato. But it sure was fun to look at! |
