tomato-sunflower cross

I have been watching this plant grow, or actually not grow, it has been growing nothing but leaves with not much stem and no flowers and stayed in the shape of a ball.
I was shocked to see this HUGE bloom on a HUGE stem. I gave it a few taps and did see some pollen.

Anyone seen anything like this?
Any bets on what will happen to the bloom?

Having trouble with the photos so hope this works.

Spectacular! What was it supposed to be, Brad? Looks like nothing I've seen before and, considering how many you've seen, it must be remarkable for you too.

So, how close is that plant to a nuclear power plant? overhead power lines? cell phone tower?

Here's hoping that the monster sets a tomato and that you can provide that stem the support it will need to raise such a potentially overweight child!

If that thing actually produces a tomato and you can stabilize it you’ll have one heck of a challenger for the most novel tomato plant. Step aside Stick.

I dunno Brad.

There's the striped speckled and polka dotted varieties you've got, the devil dog ready to attack interlopers, and now THAT blossom.

But with regard to what all has been taking place in your tomato fields, like Craig, I have to wonder what the heck is going on.

Nuclear plant nearby as Craig questioned?

Overhead transmission lines as he also questioned?

Heck, I'm ready to suggest ley lines or disturbance of the spirits of the indigenous orginal Indian folks in the area.

Do you dabble with those crocuses from which one can extract colchicine?

Any known magnetic reversals in your area?

Are you near any fault lines?

I've seen blossom doubles and triples and a picture of one quad that someone showed, but nothing like that which you show.

What variety IS that plant anyway?

But nothing like that.

This is by far the freakiest plant I have ever seen and not at all sure what the story is.

Probablly 50 miles from the nukes.

Cell towers everywhere even though I get dropped calls all the time.

Indian grounds, oh yea this was a nice place to live for several thousand years at least and I have found a few beads and arrowheads but no bones.

Fault lines for sure.

I was wondering how to support it myself.

Stick was the first cross I thought of but have never grown it.

It is in a row of Beauty King which is a stable variety and looks NOTHING like this.

I will try to do a video today so we can get a different view.

GMG are doing fine.

Leaves are very curled but it is not from lack of water that line got water the day before and only the surface looks dry.

Brad-who should be in the garden and not on the computer.................

Well I gave it a shot. It's a video from my digital camera and the quality is fair at best.

The stem has a nuckle on it and then get real flat and wide.

The road sounds like it runs right through my garden but is actually 100 yards away.

Noticed another bloom.

The plant reminds me a lot of my mutant Kimberly, but it has no huge blooms up on big stalks like that. I know - aliens snuck replacements in our gardens when we weren't looking. "Feed me Seymour."
