Curious Tomatoes

I thought I would post pics of two of my current crop. The first is Grub's Mystery Green growing in a pot. All the fruit is above the leaves and there seems to be no more flowers for new ones. Is this normal for a Grub's?

The second pick is of Southern Night grown in my garden. I have never seen a single truss produce as many tomatoes as this one has. Is this normal as well?

Wow, what a cluster! I have only one non-cherry truss like that or bigger, but it is with much smaller fruits (about 70-100 g). It is from a sport of Reisetomato.

Hi Alex

It looks like you might a determinate, of which I have only evey had one, from seeds saved from one of your compatriots but which may well be an accidental cross in my garden.

That determinate produce a red here that was, to be honest, pretty 'orrible. But one never knows, do they? And if you are unhappy with the result of what you are growing then by all means email me for fresh seeds from a better save.

On the other hand, if what you get is good or better than that then please save seeds so we can work on stabilising it.

Grub, I'll be growing some Grub's Mystery Green this year - what am I to expect, or rather what are your expectations of a stable plant. Seed source was Spatz who reports it as stable. Thought I'd give it a try since I'm only growing 46 varieties this year!

I can't wait to try it. They are starting to ripen to a nice lime green so I don't think they will turn red. It is definately a determinate with only ten tomatoes on it and two very small new flowers. Thank you for the offer of new seed I would love that and of course I will return the favour.

What you should get is a compact indeterminate about 5ft tall with thick stalks and PL leaves (there is also an RL version out there) that produces a good crop of medium/large green beefsteaks with an amber blush. Flavour is exellent and fruity and sweet, with complex winey undertones and an almost funky aftertaste redolent of fresh-cut grass.

Grub,

Your description is spot on except for the height. Mine is only about two and a half feet tall. Maybe because it is in a pot?? The taste is exactly as you describe it. In your previous post you suggested that you had only one potato leaf determinate type. Should I send you some seed from the plant that I have?
