Super Sioux
Hey everyone, hope all is well.
My neighbor across the street swears by this variety. So after he gave me a bunch of tomatoes last season, I saved seeds. Question: is Super Sioux OP ??? ~ Tom

It was developed in 1944 and has been listed in the SSE Yearbook almost from when SSE was started in 1975.
Only OP's are listed in the Yearbook and Super Sioux is OP.

Yup, and I found it most unimpressive the one time I grew it. Low production, bland but sweet taste. Won't try it again.

I tried it ONCE..... not a winner for me. Many more out there to beat it in my estimation.

Grew it a few years back and it didn't impress me. You're neighbor's taste bubs may not have been educated as of yet. :-)

To tell you the truth, he grows in earthboxes only (for maintenance) and for production ... His plants are always 7ft tall and loaded with maters! I thought they tasted like a tomato ??!!? Ok - thanks everyone ... gonna have to try grwoing this one for miself ... ~ Tom Len:

I grew it last year. The plant got sick, and lived. It actually made some fruits, but the mocking birds got to them before I did. I will grow this again to see if I like it. I really like Sioux, and grow it every year.

Tom,
I wasn't trying to put down Len. Every taste bud has its own partiality. Just saying that he may not have tasted some of the other heirlooms out there. He'd probably think my taste buds are themselves off in what I like. BTW, Len looks younger than I do. :-)

Ignore them Len, they get carried away!
We grew it we liked it; we will grow it again. We will also grow lots of others. |
