Sungold X Mom's F2

Curious if anyone has grown this one? I've got three seedlings going ........ seed received in a surprise package

Some good material at work here, so anxious to see the F2 result. Will post pics shortly. Wee bit a crud evident.

Mom's - 80 days, indet., regular leaf plant with a high yield of 6-12 oz, yellow fruit with red marbling, outstanding flavor.

Sungold - 55-60 days, large indet., regular leaf, very sweet, bright orange cherries, .5", on long clusters, delicious fruity taste, one of our favorite cherries, along with Josefina

I am anxiously waiting to see what you get. Are the three seedlings look identical so far? I haven't grown Mom's, but I'd think its foliage could be different from Sungold's, and some differences may be apparent even at the early stages.

Anyone knows what Sungold X Mom's F1 looked like? And who's crossed the two varieties?

Actually had four seedings - didn't think I 'd kept the runt .....

Anyhoo, much different foliage, especially on bottom right plant (I may have resized too small, but you get the idea). Amazing what one can see when the pics come up full screen - the top right plant has black dots - should I yet? Also some CRUD on starter leaves - on all expect the narrow leaved lower right plant.

All were transplanted into 8 oz. cups last weekend - now just for some warmer weather - snow in April in Vancouver - unbelievable

I trialed Sungold x Mom's F1 last year. Seed was from David, who's original source, I think, was someone from Belgium.

The F1 produced 1 1/4" cherries, the color of Sungold. The flavor was K.

I also recieved both crosses in a round robin,if they are from david than i know the person,great gardner who lives in belgium.He is also crossing different types of lettuce and cabbages to devolp a new spieces,got some seeds from him and til now his lettucemix is awsome.

crazytomato - does the person in Belgium post here? would love to see some pics of the F1 - wonder what his target goal was for these crosses?

Anyhoo, will add above info to my data base and report out as season progresses.

Thought it time to update this thread - here's a picture of Plant 1 (will retake pics of Plants 2, 3 and 4). Seems to be doing well despite our cold wet weather.

Anyone have a pic of Mom's for comparison?

Sungold x Mom's F2 Plant 1

Well, here we are almost mid-July - and where are the tomatoes? I found these wee babies on my inspection tour this a.m. The weather here on the coast has been amazing the last week or so - I expect to see a lot more like this within the next couple of days. I have had to remove a few yellowed leaves, but on the whole, most plants are looking really good. I'm growing four plants from this cross - curious to see if I get anything larger than a cherry - as Mom's (a bi-colour) is a larger tomato - but the cherry gene does often dominate it appears. No fruit set on the other three plants as of yesterday.

Anyhoo, can't complain - as this one and New Yorker are the only ones to set fruit to date

Sungold x Mom's (F1) was the second earliest in my garden last year, right behind Sungold. I really can't give a DTM, because my methods are unconventional.

Also, I was down to my last seed of Large Pink Bulgarian PL. I now have a single plant, starting to produce fruit. Have you named it, yet?

P.S. The Sungold x Black Cherry (F1), from last year, now has a working name... "Skinsipid". You can take it from there. I hope your F2 grow-outs next year, do better tastewise.

Here's an update on Sungold x Mom's F2 - four plants all now have baby fruit. Pics from the top down: Plant 4, Plant 3, Plant 2, Plant 1. I expected a little more variation in the F2, however Plant 3 looks like it might be bigger than a cherry. Should also add that I'm seeing Verticillium I think - brown V's, yellowing leaves on Plants 1 and Plant 2. Plant 3 is looking the healthiest.

I am growing a (SungoldxJuliet) X Black Cherry. The fruit are just now ripening; Mine looks almost exactly like a Sungold F! but the fruits are slightly larger and the taste seems to be milder than the Sungold F!.
