Default Sausage and other, tomatoes.

This one I am happy with, I am letting it sprawl, it is putting on fruit like a cherry tomato and it looks like a bush.
Every truss is setting fruit and no BER.
I have tried several paste type tomatoes this year as I want to get seeds and my stock is getting old.
Even if it has no real flavor it will taste good in a salsa with peppers.
Or look good in a salad.

Opalka is doing well also.

It’s not a paste but I am real happy with Break O’ Day.
My plants won’t stop putting on fruit, like Carolyn said; it is a real work horse.
I’m glad I saved seeds from the tomatoes that Suze gave me.
I wish I had saved more.

Homestead is also doing great along with red rocket what a fantastic plant these are.

Strange as it may seem I don’t have any of the plants labeled and I can still tell what many are without looking at a map.

I made a zillion lables putting scrape 1x's through my table saw about 3/16 thick. They will rot after one season and and as a standby I use plastic milk jugs and cut them in strips about 3/4. Did that after seeing the prices for lables at Homer. They are out of their mind.

I have been buying the green plastic surveyors tape/ribbon and using a paint marker on it.

I then tie the ribbon to the plant or cage.

Its easy to see cheap and will last all season.
An added plus is if a C 130 wants to land they can see what direction the wind is blowing.

Fine. I'll send you seeds for 25 large pink PL ( or RL, my choice) varieties and you ID which ones they are by sight and taste alone. Of course I'd send the complete list with the seeds.

Worth, you MUST try Heidi for a paste tomato, you just must. I don'thave any seeds left to send you but I know lots of others have them.

I am saved. A great citizen of Tville just sent me a box of dark chocolate covered sponge candy and is it ever great. And here I was pretending to stay on a diet and had no nuts, no chocolate, no Double Stuffed Oreos, no Pecan Sandies, no nuttin, when this surprise package came this morning. And I got good news at the dentists' yesterday so as celebration there's Fettucini Alfredo with chicken in my future as well.

I don't know what to say.

I cant tell what some of the plants are as they look the same.

But what happened was I had my DW putting out plants according to my list and when I got to looking at them later they were not what the were supposed to be they were something else.

I can tell the differance from Black plumb and Brandywine or if the leaf dosent look right I know one got skipped and it is the next thing listed in the row.

But I have pointed to a certain plant and said, thats Break O Day and when I looked at the list it was.

I think is more of memorizing on my part then anything else.
but with time I'm sure I will get better.

25 different seeds from the same type of tomato PL or RL sounds like a challenge.

I will have to add that no seeds will be offered from me that I haven't guessed right about.

"I think is more of memorizing on my part then anything else."

I think it is because these are our 'kids' so to speak and we get to know them.

Carolyn, for some reason, I didn't get most of those emails. Maybe they went to an old account. I will email you in the next day or so with all that is going on in my very exciting life.

To know what is where, I give each plant type a number and make a diagram of the rows. I also write the number on the bottom half of a piece of duck tape then fold the tape over the cage wire. It's easy to keep track of what's what, use a Sharpie to write the number on the fruit when harvesting.

The best canner I've found to date is Andes Horn, and I've tried a lot of them during the last 10 years. It's also great fresh eating which is hard to say about paste types. Also prolific, 80 days or longer, and a large leafed huge plant.

I do make a plot plan, just in case. But I also put the plant names on old (or new) CD's with a sharpie and wire them to the cages...easy to see from a distance...lots of AOL CD's in the garden.

Earl, would you believe I know people that not only don't keep track of which plant is where, but they have no idea as to what they even planted? How can anyone live like that?

I have a map & I plant in groups of four and label each group with a large plastic T tag from Park's Seed. My only problem comes when one of the four deceases itself somehow and I don't have the same type replacement. I hate that :-(

My manager at work is growing seeds for the first time and wouldn't you know it, he doesn't know what he planted. Aaugh!

CECIL
(Did I mention I am working in our store's garden center, this year? I found some good plants that way)

This "don't know what they planted" behavior is a close cousin to people abusing (not maliciously but perhaps carelessly) seedlings you've given to them (See "Heirloom tomatoes--sharing a few seedlings" thread).
