Default Green things showed up in my soil

Hello everyone,

This is my first time growing tomatoes. This morining I found some squishy green stuff on my soil.

They looked like small pieces of green baby corn. Could this be bird poo or some sort of pest egg? They were all very uniform in appearance.

I should have taken a picture but I already squashed and threw them away.

Does anyone know what it might have been?

It could be the droppings from tomato hornworms-You should carefully look on your plants to see if there are any hornworms-they are hard to find, but you need to pick them off and get rid of them if you have hornworms. Look at this link- http://www.coopext.colostate.edu/4dmg/Pests/tomato.htm

It sounds like hornworm droppings to me too. Inspect the plant directly above where you saw the droppings and see if there are any chewed leaves. The hornworm itself blends in with the foliage and if there's one there you will have to look closely to find it.

Tomato hornworm droppings do resemble baby corn; especially as the worms grow bigger. They're usually on the very next layer of leaves above the area you find the droppings. I usually find mine hiding underneath the chewed leaves.
