I have an unheated greenhouse and we never get too cold here to kill plants in there. 2 deg below is as cold as it ever gets and not very often. We can go all year with no frosts.
I have sown them this early with the idea of planting them in the greenhouse on the winter solstice. Last year I sowed on June 5 with good results.
