Big Ben

I just finished reading about a few of Ben Quisenberry's tomatoes in a thread called "Ben Quisenberry". LQberry, one of his grandchildren wrote that Big Ben was actually the original Stump of the World - regular leaf. Also that the potato leaf variety of Stump of the World was the version we find today.

Is the original version renamed Big Ben available today?

Yes, so it would seem.

Although very few folks have listed Big Ben in the SSE YEarbooks in the past many years, those who do have said RL foliage. Just as almost everyone who lists Stump says it's PL. I say everyone b'c I'm not going to sit down and read the listings in ALL the Yearbooks.

I didn't do a search to see what commercial places, if any, might be offering Big Ben RL.

You also read in that thread that Craig said when Big Ben and Stump were first listed in the SSE YEarbooks that both were PL.

At another place there's also a thread about this and someone asked me if I would please look in my older SSE YEarbooks, of which I have all from 1975 when SSE started, onward except for the 1982, to take a look and see what the listings for Stump and Big Ben were in the late 70's.early 80's and I'll do that when I have time.

Searching for anything before 1986 is very difficult for many reasons.

I joined SSE in 1989 and have the older Yearbooks for a reason that never worked out.

I did find one source in a Yahoo search. Tomato Bob has Big Ben listed but no description.

There's another commercial source as well but it's not a source I can recommend, so won't.

Anyone thinking or ordering it from tomatobob should ask about leaf type before ordering, and RL Big Ben is listed in the SSE 2009 Yearbook for those who are SSE members.

Thanks for the tip Carolyn. Much appreciated. Wish I had the extra $ to join SSE but can not at this time.
