Does anyone know where Rhoades Heirloom (and Rhoades

I checked the 2009 SSE YEarbook and didn't find anything named Rhoades, but did not check earlier Yearbooks.

And I assume you already Googled it.

Where did you first hear about it and do you know if seeds are available?

It is a legacy variety in fact? As in well known from the days of yore?

I have grown Rhoades Heirloom from seed that was obtained from Val (aka Grungy). She might be able to provide more info on its origins. It is a great producer of decent tasting tomatoes and stands up well here in the PNW to the various diseases.

I grew Rhoades Heirloom last year and echo velikipop's discription. Also received my seed from Grunt and Grungy. I gave seed for Rhoades to Gleckler's and from his last post he is growing it out. So maybe it will be commercially available the end of this year. In the mean time if anybody wants some seed let me know. Ami

I got seeds from Grunt and Grungy, too. I have not grown it
out yet.

I was just curious about the name. Every time I see it, I wonder
if it is misspelled (Rhodes is a more common spelling for a name
that sounds the same). There are people named "Rhoades",
though, some from Ohio:

I was just hoping that someone would see the question who
knew something about the original Rhoades associated with
these cultivar names, thus settling the question of the correct
spelling for the cultivars.

The listing in the SSE yearbook has it as Rhoades. I know Tania had it misspelled as Rhodes and has since changed it to the correct spelling which is Rhoades. Ami

I also received Rhoades Heirloom from Grunt & Grungy. Her source was OHANA so maybe it is from Ohio originally?
I haven't grown it out yet.

Terry, I know that the person referred to above OH AN A is from Ohio but I didn't think he was the originator of this Rhoades variety; I thought it was Grunt/Grungy, but maybe they posted it was an Ohio heirloom, I just didn't check.
