Default Dogs and Tomato Hornworms

I just read an article in Mother Earth News about someone out in their garden picking Hornworms off of their plants when their dogs came nosing around to see what was going on. They decided to feed a few of the worms to the dogs as treats to see if they would eat them. The dogs loved them and now the dogs regularly go through the garden looking for and finding all the hornworms that they can for snacks. If I ever have a hornworm problem with my tomatoes I think I'll give that a try. My dogs will try anything that has the word "treat" attached to it.

My dogs willingly grab the beetle grubs I toss them in the spring from the raised beds. Don't know if they'd go for hornworms...but the wasps usually take care of those for me anyway.

A trained hornworm hunting dawg...might be able to rent it out to local tomato growers.

that's a cool idea. my spoily dog needs to earn his keep. but the idea of hornworms in kurn's mouth is revolting. i kiss that mouth (sort of)!

I'd take hornworm breath any day over some of the things my dogs have eaten...
