how do I dry tomatoes?

I have dryed tomatoes in a enclosed vehical and they turn black, I have a dryer and they also turn black there. Can anyone tell me how to dry them so they are nice and red.? Iwould really appreciate it. Thank you Bill

I have dried tomatoes in the oven and in a dehydrator. Mine always turn a darker color, like a deep red/brown color, but black sounds like they're actually burned. How long do you dry yours? When I buy dried tomatoes in the store, they're always the same color as the ones I dry myself. I doubt there is any method that will keep that vibrant red color of a fresh tomato. Have you seen them like that somewhere?
