Yes, that is the main reason, is the micros. I usually put in 3-4 cups of compost. I put it in a 1 gallon paint strainer bag. I also put two one inch air stones that are connected to the air pump in that bag, tie it off with some string, which I then tie to the bucket handle. Looks like a giant tea bag.
I have tried worm casting and comosted manure as well as cotton burr compost. I can't tell a difference between them, but the plants seem to like any aerated tea, regardless of the type of compost. Next time you are out this way, give me a heads up, would enjoy meeting a live person from this forum. Another resource about compost tea is captaincompost.com. I bought his book, very short and easy read on the basics of composting and tea making. |

Creister-Thanks for the link. I downloaded it to my hard drive. I use the same basic set up, but dont use a lid.

I don't use a lid, but the dogs started to drink the tea, so, I put a lid on it. I'm sure if I left it, those two dogs would end up drinking, splashing, spilling all of it.
If you add a cup full of corn meal and alfalfa meal, roses just go crazy. Big colorful blooms, and knocks out the black spot real quick. |
